You might want to get a cheap Air Asia flight up to Penang. The geographical range of food in George Town is more limited, but there's some stunning variety and depth within the range offered: but like all these touted foodie heavens, you can find yourself duff locations, so try to get advice.

There’s a problem with the title of this thread.

I’ve also had a meal for under 6Euros at a Michelin starred restaurant.
Nakajima in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
And it was an actual restaurant, not a hawker stand.
