Holidays in SG

Seems I unwittingly have a trip booked to Singapore during Hari Raya Haji (I'll be in SG from 9/1 - 5).
What sort of expectations should I have for places to be closed, avoided or not to be missed?

I'd guess there should not be too many problems. I barely notice it in Indonesia and there is a much higher Muslim population here.

Only Muslim places/shops. Nothing really noticeable.

And to be honest, I think some of them will be open.

In the modern day, it's interesting to see more and more places stay open now. They can get more money as there are lots of people with disposable income.

Nothing changes during the public holidays, except Chinese New Year. Some shops/restaurants may close on the first day of CNY, but increasingly more are staying open during this period.

As per as me, I don't think you will face to many issues? Considering now a days Muslim community is much bigger than what it was.

Agreed... just like in the old days shops were shut on Xmas in the West, now you'd be hard pressed to find places that are actually shut for the whole period.

I think CNY is interesting because it shows how much Singapore relies on foreign workers from Malaysia and China. While places are increasingly kept open, they do struggle. I went into one massage place and they said, that they had to reduce the number of slots available because many of the torturers .. I mean masseurs had gone back to Malaysia for CNY
