Tactical Pen allowed in Singapore?

Hi.

I will be departing Singapore to travel to the Australia, and would like to enquire about the airport restrictions. Understand that weapons are not allowed for arrival and departure from the airport.

Would tactical pen be allowed through the departure customs?
it looks something like this

There is normally no customs check on departure from Singapore. If you mean security check, they are unlikely to allow you to carry it in hand luggage. Checked-in bags would pass through a scanner on their way airside, this item may or may not be flagged. The supplier should be able to advise the best way to export, perhaps by declaring it on check-in.

I was trying to work out what a "self defence pen" is. It looks as though it can be used to stab someone, or perhaps write a nasty note to your attacker.

It appears to be an attempt to embody the adage that "the pen is mightier than the sword", using the idea that labelling anything as "Tactical" makes it seem more macho. Cf "Tactical bacon"

I think any airport security would be unlikely to take that off you unless they were feeling very paranoid. I will note that I have a heavy non-"Tactical" drafting pen in my usual luggage, made by Rotring, which has been examined a couple of times in detail - possibly because it is quite heavy and made of much more solid metal than most pens - but it has passed muster each time.

As a Singapore based *G, I can confirm that Tactical Pens are allowed, though sometimes you may need to show that it is a pen. (Uncapping it if it is not a push button type) There is an active interest by a local airline flight crews to purchase them.

I have more problems with Hong Kong when I bring 100 China Made Metal Body pens as they want to inspect why I bring so many metal tubes.

(Disclaimer, I am a part owner of a business which sells and distribute Tactical Pens in Singapore)
