like LOWJHG, i - a SGPrean - am repulsed and convulsed, by durian, smells, tastes, sight, even mentions cos they stir up smells and tastes.
And to add to my troubles, I grow up in a family who adore that fruit. And I forgot to ask my fiancee if she eats durian before I popped the question. |

Singaporean and love it. Recently I have been craving durian ice cream on top of durian puree at Ji De Chi @ Liang Seah!

It doesn't do much for me. There are lots of Durian stands in Indonesia, but I've never really enjoyed them. I've tasted worse stuff, certainly. There are lots of better fruits I'll eat though, if in such a tropical country.

I'm probably one of the few people who neither hate nor love them.
Smell isn't really setting me off, sure it doesn't smell very good, but I've never though it being atrocious. Just so-so. Taste, again, it's ok. I don't mind to eat a few pieces of it, I kind of like mango (but not love it), so Durian as well is ok-ish. Would I eat it, if I had some other, more tasty choices? Not really! But once in a while it's ok.. Durian ice cream, again, if more preferred choices are available, don't really need to have it, but if it's only Durian or other tastes I don't fancy much, then why not.. |
I don't like it either and apparently it's bad for your digestion if you eat too much of it.

I do like Durian, been a number of years since I ate any.

I really like durian and enjoy the sticky rice/durian (rather than mango) variant.
The custardy texture and flavor are fantastic. But.... I'd much prefer to run through a kg of mangosteen or rambutams uninterupted. |

I have never gotten it past my nose. Mangosteen ... check for the yellow latex (avoid) and then YUM! |
The smell is great, the taste even better, Yeah I'm asian :p

The yellow goo in Mangosteens is bitter and definitely best avoided. Often it forms when the fruit is over-ripe. |
Love the taste but hate the smell of the fruit. Only tried it for the first time a year ago when in Singapore, but have had durian ice cream and bubble tea in usa since then.
