An overnight stopover in SIN.

Next month I'll be flying from AKL to HKG via SIN and have got a 13 hour stopover. I arrive at about 19.30 and have booked accommodation at the Ambassador Transit Hotel. After checking in and leaving my overnight bag in the room, I'd like to clear Immigration & Customs and spend a couple of hours sightseeing.
I believe that sightseeing trips are laid on for transit passengers, but I can't imagine them being that late in the evening. Any suggestions would be most helpful.
Also, if I do leave the airport, and as I'll be relying on public transport, when is the latest I can to get back to the Transit Hotel?

Many thanks.

There won't be any tours at that time, but you could check out the sights yourself and walk around the city independently. It's very easy.

Take a look at the tourism idea for some sights.

Some things I can think of off the top of my head is the Singapore Flyer, the Raffle Hotel, Orchard Road if you want to shop, Chinatown or Little India, maybe the Marina Bay Sands.

The last train from the city to the airport is usually a bit before midnight. You can check here

There's bus 36 but the last bus is slightly earlier than the MRT so better stick with the train, and easier.

Thank you for that, Noodlesz.
Shall look at the timings of trains and take it from there.

You can certainly go out to Marina Bay at night. The area (including Marina Bay Sands) is vibrant at night.
Don't know about public transport. Check with the hotel staff, they will set you straight.
Be sure you have boarding pass for your next flight.

The Marina Bay area close to the MBS is pretty boring at night, you need to be on the other side of the bay where the Fullerton Hotel is to be close to the action.

I really wouldn't bother with the airport hotel.

It's about 20 minutes to downtown in a cab. Pick a hotel near where you want to be that evening, spend a couple of hours wandering around down there then back to the airport in the morning. The only time you'll save is immigration which is usually very quick anyway. Security is cleared at the gate so you have this regardless of where you stay.

Note that the train doesn't run that late so if you're heading back much after 11pm you'll be in a cab (or a bus) anyway.

Also if for whatever reason you can't get your boarding pass until the next morning (as referenced by allset2travel) you're going to be stuffed as you won't be able to get back airside.

I've been reliably informed, by SIA, that the boarding pass for the onward flight will be in my sweaty palms as I wander down to Departures at AKL.
Having given my card details when I booked the room at the transit hotel, won't I get billed for it if I don't show up? Besides, a couple of hours in town, then back to the airport, into Departures and browse the area before retiring sounds good to me. ;)

Thanks, once again, for all your help.

If you're with one joined up airline all the way through then yes, I'm sure you'll have your boarding passes all the way through. The only problem would be if you were connecting on some odd airline that didn't have check-in facilities available until 4am or whatever.

As for the cancellation policy, just check with the hotel for details. Price may also be a consideration here depending what's going on in town.

Whatever you decide, enjoy it!
