Trying to pick between a few hotels. Help?

Good afternoon everyone and a Happy New Year to you. :)

I will be going to Singapore for five nights in October 2010 ( Yes I know, It's a long way out) I have some hotels in mind and I'd like your opinions on some of the hotels.

First I'm going with my partner for our 5 year anniversary. We are a young couple ( mid 20's) but we like history, sightseeing, walking, shopping etc ( not interested in nightclubs)
I have a budget of $200-$300 SGD/night. I have no problem pre-paying.

Here is my choices that I've partly researched.

Fairmont Singapore: All Prepaid
Standard Room $203 SGD
Deluxe Room $235 SGD
Club Room(lounge access) $300SGD. (This rate included bfkt. other two did not)

Mandarin Oriental
Deluxe Room $299 SGD
Premier Room $319 SGD
None of the above rates include bkfst I don't think

Pan Pacific. All rates include 3pm late checkout, one upgrade and comp brfk
Deluxe $275 SGD
Deluxe with Balcony $313

Hilton Orchard Road. All rates advanced purchase
King Deluxe $216/SGD night
King Club with lounge $256 SGD/night ( includes free bkfst in lounge)

Conrad looks good as well. I can get a good weekend rate of $250 SGD for a club room.

I like the idea of the Fairmont and the hilton both having a Club room with free breakfast and stuff for a reasonable rate. However the Hilton is much cheaper.

If anyone can weigh in it would be very much appreciated. Also given the rates I've showed you if you could comment if they are a good deal or not.

Thanks everyone.

Of the hotels you have listed, the best is the Mandarin Oriental IMO. But it sounds as though that is room only. My partner and I stayed on a club floor at the Oriental and were upgraded to Club Harbour Suite which was fantastic. The lounge is very nice and does a great breakfast (including champagne if you so desire) and early evening drinks and canapes.

The Pan Pacific is very close to The Oriental...stayed in a Club Floor room there as well. The room was OK but we really disliked the lounge. Evening snacks were dull and boring and the lounge was ugly. Would not go back.

The Fairmont has a great location on top of the MRT interchange. I have not stayed there, but from what I have read if you book a room in the newly renovated tower (I'm not sure if it's North or South) you will be happy with your hotel choice. Internet is free for FPC members...free to join.

A Conrad Club room for $250 is a good deal to me. I assume it's the January Sale rate? It's considered a very good SIN property. I would not stay at the Hilton.

The Four Seasons has (or at least did when I was there last fall) have attractive weekend rates. $318SGD including breakfast. It may not be the best property in the chain, but it's still a FS and that will always beat a Hilton, Sheraton etc to me. I like the FS location just off Orchard road, close to the MRT, and very close to the new ION Orchard Mall. It's connected to the Hilton if you want to stay in the AC on your walk to Orchard Rd.

When you and your husband save up your next 240,000 Aeroplan miles...go to Thailand. ;)

I stayed at the Hilton last year, and wasn't impressed with the room.

It's great to research now, but I wouldn't book anything nonrefundable now. Too much can happen between now and your anniversary that might change your dates or even your destination. Also, it might be too early for the best deals 9 to 10 months out.

Just to update:
I got a fully refundable rate at the Singapore Fairmont for October 2010 at $199 SGD/night ($142USD) for a Deluxe (Standard was $159 SGD) so I booked it and if something better comes along I can cancel it. :)

You might want to consider the Intercontinental and if so a visit to the forum will help.

By combining Ambassador membership and using the Friends and Family rate - all explained on the forum - it's quite possible to find yourself in a full suite for around $230 or per night including club access. Club access gives you drinks and all day refreshments and breakfast etc. Also a happy hour (two or three in fact). If you're stay includes a weekend then your membership will give you a free weekend cert. I have 6 nights there over the next month or so......

The Conrad is a nice property, and that room rate seems reasonable. You can/should also see if an executive room comes up, as then you get comped breakfast and drinks in the evening, which is nice.

The hotel is centrally located, close to shopping and numerous restaurants, and will cost less than SIN$ 20 each way to the airport (depending upon traffic, mine was $17 from the airport and $13 to the airport, with very favorable traffic conditions, and a very fast driving cabbie on the return trip). You are in walking range of all the major downtown cultural sites, the Raffles, the Quays, the Asian Civilizations museum, and the waterfront park. The closest MRT station is about a 15 minute walk through multiple shopping malls.

Just FYI, phases 1 and 2 of the Circle Line will be opening in April 2010 (before the OP's arrival). Promenade station is opening right next to Suntec City and will make MRT access to the Marina District hotels like Conrad much easier. ^

Stayed at the Mandarin Oriental 2 years ago, it's nice but you can do better

You might want to check out Carlton Hotel which is about 10 mins away from City Hall MRT. I think the room rates are pretty competitive.

I stayed in the Fairmont twice last year, and must say that the rooms (even the non-club ones) were lovely! Definitely 5*, as was the service. Location is also very good, just opposite to Raffles Hotel, plus next door to Chijmes, a great spot with lots of bars and restaurants if you want to eat out and try a few different styles. You are also right next to the Swissotel which has a fabulous jazz bar on the 70th (or so) floor.

Stick with the Fairmont, it's a really good choice!

St. Regis was pretty nice but may be a bit out of the price range you are looking for.
