SIA last Sydney 747-400 service set for Oct 2009

http://airlineroute.blogspot.com/200...00-flight.html

Final 747 flight on the Singapore to Sydney is SQ219 on 04OCT09, returning from Sydney the following day on SQ220

SQ219/220 is to be replaced by Boeing 777-300, with existing configuration.

Would be quite a heavy downgrade for all 3 classes if 777-300 with existing config operates the route instead of 744... Maybe they would have reconfigured the 773s into 773A by the time SYD route switches.

I wonder how long LAX and JFK will retain the 744 for?

I was just thinking about the 744s on the SIN-SYD route literally moments before I logged onto FlyerTalk this morning then I see this thread at the top of the page! It's hard to believe there'll be no more 744s on this route from October. I hope they'll retain MEL for a little longer.

I think the new config 773s will be 1-2-1. Seat map for SQ219/220 shows 773s with 2-2-2. This indicates old config.

On another matter, using UA miles SYD-SIN in J class means only the old recliner seats are available. Ridicurous.

Hang on, are you talking J or F? If you are talking about J isn't 2-2-2 the new regional config? Existing (old) config is 2-3-2 on 773s for J class.

Not entirely correct, and I believed you have not been at the back of the plane for a long while. It would at least be an upgrade for Y passengers as the existing B773 has a slightly wider seat than the existing B744.

True, but at the same time, many of the old 772 and 773 have non-AVOD IFE which is quite frankly shocking for SQ in this day and age...

Hmmmm I see for redmeption for Feb 2010 the 744 morning flight, has changed to 777-300 and seatguru states this plane has no skysuites nor spacebeds.... seems to be just 'seats' in J class!

That's really bad!

Also, last week I changed (thankfully!!) to A380 afternoon flight! Now it seems they released seats and now taken them away as you cant even waitlist (checked multiple days that were all available last week).....

I wonder what my 744 to LAX will change to! Hopefully not a 773!

I have always enjoyed the 747, thankfully mostly in F. I will miss it. If the replacement aircraft aren't "good enough" I wonder how it will further erode revenue for them.

I believe the retrofitted B777-300 will feature the new F seats (similar to the ones in 773ER), the new J seats (similar to A330-300) as well as the new Y seats. Savers awards should be available for J and Y, but only standards awards are available for F.

I'm shocked to find out that the 747 has been downgraded. If anything I was hoping for an upgraded equipment for our upcoming flights.

Are there any news on whether the 773s will feature the old regional style seats in C and F?

I still cannot believe they are doing this. With all the routes they are cutting down, why the hell would they need to pull this 747 from that route? I would have been happier it they had pulled the plug on the 4th flight alltogether and moved everyone to one of the other flights on the new config aircrafts. Is there still hope that they will change the type of aircraft again between now and October?
