i may pop into the IFL and see how it is before going to the VS club (assuming an F seat opens up and i get on it), or i may go to whatever Biz Class club SQ uses.
slightly OT: how "good/bad" is SQ about waitlists and upgrades? i.e. if i go to the gate, check in, and explain what the deal, is will they waitlist me at a high priority since i'll be on a *A F award?

No. Unless UA reissues you in F, or in the extremely unlikely event of an op-up being required (especially on that route and you'd be behind all the PPS travelling in business), then you will be stuck in business class. SQ only gets paid by UA for F if you are ticketed in F.

I am on SQ25 in J class in a few days and will arriving at JFK very early (maybe around lunchtime) for the 2105 flight. I am a Star Alliance Gold (Bmi DC). Will I be able to get my boarding pass around lunchtime or will I have to wait until later? Does SQ use a third party which has the facility to issue my boarding pass early? I will be travelling with hand luggage only.
Or will I be able to use a lounge in any of the other terminals? I know the LH lounge in T1 opens about midday (although I heard about a new lounge opening after security, has this happened yet?), but would I be able to use it even without my boarding pass?
Thanks for any help.

SQ check in at JFK opens 4 hours before departure.
In general a boarding pass will be required to use the designated *G/J lounge. I have used LH lounge due to my LH status without a BP and VS clubhouse without a BP due to my SQ status, so it is possible in theory. In practice it is unlikely without special status (does BD Gold travelling SQ J get access to VS clubhouse?).
Otherwise, you have enough time to visit NY so why not head somewhere and explore instead of sitting in a (rather boring) airport for 9 hours?

Thanks for the info, but that probably won't help me as I'm flying SQ J and therefore won't have access to the VS clubhouse, and the LH lounge is in a completely different terminal.

Online seat selection?
I'm flying the infamous SQ25 through SIN tomorrow. (My first SQ flight in my life.) Just did my online check-in, and was surprised to find ALL the seats already occupied. What's the use of their seat selection procedure online if they're pre-assigning everyone seats in advance for an apparently full flight? Strange.
I'm assuming that I'm sitting in the same seat for both legs, as the online seat selection procedure isn't breaking the flight into two legs. Can anyone confirm this?
Alternatively, it may be that the JFK-FRA leg has some open seats, and the FRA-SIN leg has some as well, but they don't overlap-- and therefore if I'm flying through to SIN and if they need to assign the same seat to me, then I wouldn't see any open seats at all. Thoughts?
Fortunately, I was preassigned the aisle seat in an exit row towards the back of the plane, right by the galley. It's the seat I would have chosen anyway-- working on whatever information I've gathered from this wonderful forum and other online resources.
Thanks.

Thanks to all- this is a great thread!
I just burned 180,000 LH miles to fly my in-laws to see us in DC, and was lucky enough to be able to score them JFK - FRA in SQ J on SQ25!
I just got off the phone w/ SQ and was even able to get seats 17H/K. ^^
One thing I am unclear on is - will they have the Spacebeds?
And what is the best BTC meal, besides the obvious satays?

I happen to love their breakfast, and always have seconds (and sometimes thirds) on the bircher muesli, and have great made to order eggs...YMMV

For FRA-JFK they will serve lunch, not breakfast. They will also serve 2nd meal about 1-1/2 hours prior to landing.

If you BTC for the FRA-JFK leg of SQ 026, be prepared to explain carefully to the crew what you ordered and possibly suggest that they check the cart for the second meal.
