But as others commented perhaps SQ is operating a higher overall cabin temp than in days past.

From the trip report: The only downside was that it got very cold. As it is right next to the door, it is freezing! But if you walk up two meters, just ahead of the door to row 95, it’s a perfect temperature

Edit to add that Mainly Miles has a comment on Row 96 being very cold (It's also listed as one of the worst seats! Was ok for me but it may not suit others).
Wife and I currently have 95D and 95F from JFK - SIN, I was going to move to 96D and 96F four days prior if they are available because
of the foot space and double bed. Now reading row 96 can be very cold and noises from the galley, I am not so sure anymore.
Can someone let me know if row 96 double bed is anything special compared to other middle seats? Thanks.

And also does anyone who's sat in 96 or 87 have any actual problem with noises from the galley? Or smells - food smells tend to wake me up on flights more than noises.

I tend to have a pref for row 96. Never had an issue with noise from galley, but I am one of those odd people who can shut out noise easily. I always pick this row when flying J on 380. Cant say I had any smells from galley either, those hepa filters are pretty good!

I'm the same as RayG and typically go with the last bulkhead. Also haven't noticed any food smells. I almost always use ear plugs and eye shades though when sleeping.

Personally speaking (other may have a different view), I think SQ oversells the notion of a double bed. The only difference here is that as these seats are bulkhead your feet are not angled into the cubby hole as with other seats. This allows you to both sleep straight. Your upper bodies have the same seat divider as any other middle pair of seats. Do I prefer the bulkhead seats? Yes, as I'm tall and like the extra leg space. Is it really a double bed? No.

You could make the case that even the Suites double bed is not a full double bed but two singles next to each other as there is a plastic divider between the two beds which impedes the enjoyment somewhat (easily fixable though, cf QR).

On a separate note, apart from row 96 being a bulkhead, the true benefit to me is that in pre-revenge travel times, the back of the bus used to be emptier in J, which always made for a much pleasanter ride -- obviously this is no longer the case.

Indeed! Usually a bit more empty I thought between JFK and FRA than FRA and SIN.

Thanks for all the info re row 96. Of course that row is not available for me to select at the moment as it seems SQ blocks off all the bulkhead rows. So it's either 97 or 95.

I believe these should be unblocked about 48h or so before the flight. I did this about two weeks ago when I did FRA-JFK, and I secure three seats on row 96, including the middle ones, which I wanted for my daughter to have the flat bed close to my wife's.

Quick recap of our experience on this route a week and a half ago:

We were asked to wear masks to board, but then really only wore them for take off and if we had to use the lavatory.
PDB was only juice or sparkling water
No hot towels (we were given these several times on our return flight on KLM)
Amenity kits were given on request
FAs were nice, but not overly friendly
Food was good, except that the only options for the "breakfast" were a Rueben sandwich or a noodle dish. I just wanted some fruit and yogurt lol.

All in all a good flight, it was our first time in SQ Business as well as our first time in KLM Business and I have to say I enjoyed all aspects of KLM just a bit more. The KLM staff was wonderful, the FA apologized to me that a bit of the silver coating on the divider was worn off, not that it affected me in the least.

Flying next week, did they require a KN95 or something or was a cloth mask enough?

They won't require KN95, simple surgical or cloth is enough. They never did, tbh.

On my connecting flight on Lufthansa, they DID require FF2/KN95, which they handed out (I only carry a stretchy-cloth mask). SQ didn't care what kind of mask. But I think the mandate drops soon anyway.

Luckily my connection is on SK (which was one of the first to get rid of masks) so no worries there.
