Tips for EWR->SIN flight

It's my first time taking this particular flight (I fly business class, the flight is in 2 weeks), so I wanted to make sure I do everything right.

I'm also not familiar with the EWR lounge, in case there is anything worth doing/getting from the lounge.

I believe that since I don't have solitaire status, I can't get anything after arrival though.

For the flight itself, I'm aware I can request an amenity kit and I've booked the cook. What else should I know? Are there any particular foods or drinks particularly worth trying? Anything not on the menu they provide? (I heard there is special champagne off-menu so far)

At EWR you'll use the BA Lounge. If you are carry on luggage only you may be able to do mobile app check in (depending probably on your citizenship situation) and avoid the check in counter. In the lounge you can ask at attendant at the buffet for Champagne and they'll get you a glass if so inclined. Avoid sitting at the window in the lounge as the ventilation system is set on hyper blast.

The second meal on board I was told is on a schedule (approximately 8 hours after the conclusion of the 1st meal) and can't be done at a time of your choosing. That said, I missed the second meal by sleeping on the return (to JFK) but since I ordered book the cook, they hadn't cooked the meal - so it was still available to me ~12-13 hours after departure.

All and all, the nonstop, although a long flight, is a very pleasant way to make your way to Singapore.

Special champagne off menu for J? Never heard of it. Champagne in J is average. Nothing worth getting hammered on.

The TWG tea onboard is really nice. Try multiple flavor.

EWR - You can use BA lounge or if you're more keen and have time, drop the bags off and go to the much nicer Polaris lounge in a different terminal. You will need to backtrack for your flight.

I'm personally not a fan that flight. Unless you're obsessed with non-stop flights, you will realize it's way too long to be confined inside the seat. JFK-FRA-SIN is much more pleasant. The non-stop ones are something you do it one for cred of being the longest flight in the world. There really is nothing else special about it.

That's great info. I have a couple hours spare time, happy to explore a bunch of lounges.

Well, it's the first time I take it, but I agree it's terrifyingly long. But I also think having to get off in the middle would be annoying to me, the boarding/exiting as well as takeoff and landing are the most annoying times for me personally.

Go without saying: definitely peruse the Book The Cook picture thread. SQ catering is very solid. If you're hungry midflight, you can ask for hot food. It's usually just noodle soup but nice enough. Sometimes the crew proactively offer, sometimes they don't.

OP, wishing you all the very best on this flight! My only additional tip is Seat 10A on the A350-900 ULR is quite nice; I know there's concern that galley lights or noise will disrupt sleep, but I never find that to be the case - SQ gals and gents are fairly courteous, and if they are being a bit loud, kindly flag it to them and they'll tone down. The added bulkhead space to move your legs around is unreal!

Also big +1 to what commaspace mentioned - think it's nice to try the non-stop long flight from EWR or JFK to SIN, but after doing so once, I always stopover through Europe now (whether on SQ or another Star Alliance airline). It's really nice to have ~1.5 hours to stretch your legs, take a shower, and get freshened up for the next leg. Even in J, you will find the 18-19 hours make you a bit antsy by the end ... at least I did (after a meal, 8-9 hours of sleep, and a second meal, as there were still 4-5 hours left in the flight).

Well, turns out the check-in opens only ~4 hours before the flight, so I have to wait at the airport without being able to see the lounge :(

I would forget about the whole Polaris lounge distraction and even not worry too much about the BA lounge. The flight's at 9:35am. Get a good nights sleep and get to the airport as late as you feel comfortable with. I am sure others have flown it more recently, when I did the flight last, security seemed relatively quick and painless.

Also for jet lag management, I found trying to nap earlier in the flight is good, but avoiding napping in the last 7 hrs or so helpful, with the idea of landing, having dinner (if hungry) and then going to bed at the right time in the new time zone.

Stay well hydrated. Don't overindulge in alcohol (depending on how you handle your alcohol and the effect it has on you). I actually enjoy using facial mist on my face to keep me feeling fresh as well (they have in the amenities kit - make sure you ask for one). Get up and walk around a bit ( I actually walk back and forth across the plane sometimes - IIRC you can do this at the rear of the business class cabin). Look at the IFE to see if anything of interest, if you think you'll run out, get a good book or load up your device with content you want to catch up on.

Have done SIN-EWR/vv a few times in J, but recently flew SIN-JFK (similar timing to EWR-SIN) in PE and back on LAX-NRT-SIN in PE. Whilst in theory it's a long flight, it didn't feel that much longer than flying say SIN-Europe (extra 4 hrs), but coming back felt long with the transit at Narita, knowing you still had 6-7 hrs to go. I just take the mindset this is "me time" and to relax and enjoy rather than be stressed about how long the flight is.

You can probably arrive to EWR much later than you might think, especially if you have TSA pre-check and aren't checking a luggage. Terminal B security is usually a breeze and the gate is less than 5 minutes walk. Much more pleasant than any of JFK's nightmarish terminals. I arrived by around 8, but honestly I could have arrived at 8:30am and not had any problem making the flight (although I wouldn't recommend cutting it that close).

I would definitely explore the Book the Cook menu options. The menu for the flight is available online, so I would recommend checking the online menu, as well as the Book the Cook menu options, and pre-selecting your choice of main courses, at least a day before the flight.
