married segment madness
Have a ticket booked from SFO-SIN-SYD RT in J, wanted to see if I could pay the cash difference to upgrade to F/Suites on the SIN-SYD RT legs.
Called in since website kept erroring out, and was told that since its a married segment, the agent was getting an error. Asked if agent could unmarry the segments, which she did, and still not able to purchase up to F despite having seats open. Only way to do this is to change the ticket to 2 separate itins, SFO-SIN and then SIN-SYD rt. That seems crazy to me, and leaves me very unprotected if an irrops occurs, as I would land 7:10pm and have 4.5 -5 hours buffer until the SYD flight departs. Is this a HUCA scenario? or is agent correct on this? |
This has nothing to with married segments. The problem is that there is no half J / half F fare for this itinerary, so the only way to achieve what you want to do is to have two separate bookings as the agent is suggesting. Did you get a cost to do this? I imagine it would be very expensive.

Well i would assume might be cheaper to just change the whole ticket to F instead of issuing 2 tickets (1J to SIN and 1F to SYD). Changing whole ticket to F should be possible (as even with F ticket you can fly SFO-SIN in J). But would be good to ask for the price differences.
But what’s definitely not possible is to just pay partially as like the other poster already mentioned there are no half J half F tickets |

Original routing was 8,211 for the whole trip in J. Separating the itinerary with the added F cost almost 12k usd, about 3750$ for the J segment and 7700 for the F segment. |

Not strictly true, for some routes you can force a mixed class booking by selecting flight combinations where one flight is on the A350 or other plane that doesn't have F. And you can directly book a round trip with outbound in J and return in F, or vice versa.
In his case where one leg doesn’t have F and the other leg is in F of a journey with transit always results in a F ticket for the whole journey, just that for the aircraft which doesn’t have F you sit in biz - for this situation there is no half J / half F price |
