Farewell, paper menu
I personally don`t welcome this change. Paper menu (especially what SQ had in F/Suite) was a part of experience. I don`t buy "reduce waste" story. Nothing, but the cost cut and reducing flying experience. Why not eliminating Economy and Premium Economy (as most airlines never even had), and keeping J and F in the paper version?

Could be C19 related? Less C19 touchpoints to prevent transmission.

No, permanent change. Plus, touching screen has way more chances to get transmitted than indidvidual paper menu.

I'm betting there's a much greater chance that the screen will be cleaned between flights than the paper menus (that were typically re-used).

Never had a re-used paper menu on any airline in any class. That is not a typical practice at all. Screen, on the other hand, has tons of germs, much more than a new individual paper menu.

I recall that on many previous SQ flights in F, towards the end of the flight, a FA would come through the cabin to collect the paper menus from each passengers. Some of the FAs were more thorough and aggressive than others, even going through the seat pockets to look for them. I used to collect F & J menus (only the good ones though), and so sometimes I'd have to hide them from the FAs!

Getting them back by no means means that they were going to reuse them; the policy is to take and discard after each passenger.

The FA mentioned that they needed to re-use them for the return flight. This was a few years ago.

I think it's accelerated by the increasingly ubiquitous practice in Singapore, where restaurant patrons are given a QR code to scan to view a digital menu. And if the result is cost savings, then it's a good by product for the company (and the environment). We all need to move on with the times...

Not possible. The return flights have different menu. Not sure why your FA was so after your menus, very odd. Especially SQ, and especially, like you said, in F. They take the menu cover in F/Suites - yes, but not the paper part - maybe that is where was misunderstanding.
For sure the FAs don't waste the time and effort meticulously going through the cabin to search for the paper menus - yes they also separately collect the leather folios, of course - just for the spirit of recycling. They were only interested in the paper menus when they did the cabin sweep for that sole purpose. |
Definitely took the menu from my F flight back in 2017. I asked specifically that I wanted to keep the menu and they said they needed to check. When they came back they said they needed to reuse.

Why do you keep trying to contradict? I know what I experienced. Some of those menus have both inbound/outbound menus printed in the same booklet, don't you know that?

SQ can allow you to use your own personal device to display the menu. It is not difficult to do with a QR code.
If you like to collect SQ paper menu, I am sure that SQ can print a bunch and sell them to you. |
