First Class Seats
Hi All,
Does anyone know when SQ plans to operate first class again? Will it be before 2022/23? The reason I ask is because right now, the Krisflyer Miles Calculator doesn't even allow you to see how much a first class redemption is (see below) - which I find extremely odd. I'm not searching for F seats, I'm just trying to figure out in general how many miles I need.

Clearly the situation with Covid is getting worse (cases worldwide still increasing), and we have no idea when a vaccine will be approved, distributed and the majority of the globe's population vaccinated. Does anyone know if we will ever see SQ's A380's in the air again? It is an extremely sad thought to think we won't.
And further to that, will we even see First class being operated before SQ's new 777X jets arrive?

We're unlikely to see F return before an effective vaccine is widely available, in my opinion. I wouldn't even like to speculate when that'll be.
SQ's First class service has a lot of passenger-staff interactions, elaborate meals - all of which aren't possible under the current health rules. Until those rules are lifted I don't imagine SQ would attempt to resume F even if there was enough passengers to make running an A380 or B777 - who is going to pay all that money for a pre-wrapped tray meal and no drinks service? (Take a look at https://mainlymiles.com/2020/09/24/s...ional-flights/ which outlines the scenarios in which normal cabin service could be permitted. The only countries with low enough COVID cases to be classified as low risk aren't accepting travellers.)

Ooh ... that's a bit of news to me as around mid-August I confirmed a cleared F waitlist (NRT-SIN, SQ637, 20 Feb 2021). A little strange and mildly annoying perhaps that SQ is still keeping my miles (and taxes/fees) locked up without intending to fly the class ...

Tough times now and I doubt SQ even knows what equipment it will fly with certainty in early 2021

If they downgrade you to J now, and refund excess miles, then by the time come n this flight is cancel, they need to do refund a second time. So they just wait first.

Presumably, whilst they might make extra revenue, if you look at the cost side of the equation, I doubt if they'd make "extra money" as what SQ are largely doing at the moment is running their most fuel efficient aircraft (mainly A350s with some 787s), both of which don't have F. It probably makes sense for them to block F whilst there is uncertainty around demand (for the less fuel efficient aircraft, operating pre-covid yields). I doubt whether the incremental revenue from selling a few extra F seats (vs J seats) will make up for the extra cost of running a 77W, and certainly won't for the extra costs of running the A380.

Depends how one sees......how many would buy F without getting the full F experience? Would also cost SQ more if you factor extra crew to manage F section, etc.

Honestly if you are scared of Covid-19, you won't be traveling at all.
If you are little bit concerned with Covid-19, business class will be sufficient especially they are all "suites" except on its A330s which are used on short haul flights anyway. I believe most medium haul Asian flights are operated by Boeing 787s anyway.
I agree with most folks here. If you can't offer the full first class experience, it makes sense to just not offering it now!

SQ F was already priced at a hefty premium so in difficult economic times they would have barely sold any tickets. Look at EK now... they just downgraded JFK from A380 to B77W.

And if my recollection from some other threads is correct, the the B77W now operating to JFK has the new F suite... so maybe there's a silver lining to the change

I could be wrong, but I believe the only US location being served at the moment is LAX. They are not flying to JFK right now.

That''s correct re: SQ, and what I thought too initially, but I then realised the post was referring to EK (there is no "new F suite" for SQ 77W's whereas there is on EK).
