Miles and status expirations during coronavirus situation

No, I don't think there will be any extensions after April 2022 because of the VTLs. Many VTLs destinations now and we are supposed to live with COVID-19. Just like we cannot lockdown forever, miles cannot extend for free forever. The reason for the last miles extension in March 2021 was "restricted travel opportunities globally" and many borders closed, but now the situation has changed. There are many travel opportunities and many borders are opened, although not all. Hence there are many opportunities to use miles for flights unless you choose not to be vaccinated. We need a new and stronger virus in 2022 that the current vaccines cannot protect and spread again which prevents travel for the miles to be extended for free in 2022.

"Many" VTLs is a bit strong. There are some VTLs and I can't even imagine how competitive the few awards seats on those flights will be. There are still many countries in the world that haven't opened. Philippines, Japan, and many others that I don't feel like confirming at the moment. I just know that Asia, at the moment, is still very much closed for business.

Maybe I should use "some" instead of "many". If you don't like going to the VTLs destinations now for example Frankfurt, Seoul etc it's because of your choice. It's your problem, not KrisFlyer's. The idea is there are opportunities for you to travel quarantine free now compared to March 2021. It does not mean that if you don't like flying to the VTL destinations now and end up cannot use your miles for flights to these places, KrisFlyer has to extend your miles for free until the whole world opens up like in the past. In March 2021, there was no destination that you can travel quarantine free, now there are some destinations, but you choose not to fly there.

You asked for views and you got one. What is ridiculous about it? You may not agree with the argument made / rationale presented which is fair enough, but then maybe share your view and reasoning why you think SQ should keep extending the miles?
Then we can have a discussion about the various views.
I for one can follow the basic premise that with rise in availability of travel options there could be a reduced willingness by airlines to extend expiring miles. Now of course I also wouldn't mind a further extension and think that having a number of VTL options isn't equal to a return to normal pre Covid days, but it may not be such a clear cut scenario to extend automatically any longer these days. YMMV.

What's ridiculous about it is the notion that because there are a few VTL options available, I now have no excuse for not using my miles. I will use my miles to fly wherever I want, not where someone else deems I should travel. What if I want to fly LAX-NRT/HND? That's typically where I would travel to and I'm unable to. So now I have go to freaking Frankfurt? I think not. At some point, SQ will no longer extend, but I don't think that time is now. Perhaps at the end of 2022.
Whether you can redeem your desired route or get outsized value is never a consideration for SQ. Most of its members should be regional within Southeast Asia.

1. there is cap of 3000 VTL arrivals per day. With more VTL countries/ destinations opened up, there will be more demand for the 3000 available slots
2. award availability on these VTL flights is virtually non- existent especially during high demand periods

To offer you greater flexibility as you plan your travels in the coming year, we will pause the expiration of KrisFlyer miles in 2022. This means any KrisFlyer miles that are expiring between January and December 2022 will be automatically extended in your account by 6 months at a time, at the end of each month. For example, KrisFlyer miles that are expiring in January 2022 will be extended to July 2022 at the end of January 2022, and if unutilised by July 2022, they will be extended to January 2023.
