SIA bans some models of 15-inch MacBook Pro from flights

The Straits Times

QUOTES:

"This follows directives from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and the United States Federal Aviation Administration that alerted airlines of the recall and banned the laptop models from flights.

In an announcement on its website on Sunday (Aug 25), SIA said that customers are to refrain from bringing the affected models as carry-on items or in checked baggage until the battery has been verified as safe or replaced by the manufacturer."

I imagine it will be interesting to see which airports and security people and airline staff and contract staff at outstations, have the ability to tell the difference. Everyone banned that Samsung Galaxy Note 7 in 2016, but some crews could not tell the difference between models.

And as posted in Macworld:

"This shouldn’t be too much of an issue as Apple clearly prints model numbers and serial numbers of the backs of its laptops, but this ban may cause minor frustrations solely because so many MacBooks from this decade look similar at first glance."
