Good and bad news. Good for those taking the flight in economy, and for those using SQ miles or cash to take the flight in business class. Bad news for one of the last remaining options for using UA miles between Australia and Singapore.

Welcoming the A350 to Wellington
Email just received from SQ

Singapore Airlines today announced it will deploy one of its A350-900 aircraft to Wellington for the first time, with operations scheduled to commence from 01 November when SQ248 departs Wellington for Singapore, via Melbourne.
The A350-900 will allow customers the opportunity to experience Singapore Airlines Next Generation Business and Economy class seats as well as introduce Premium Economy Class on the route for the first time.
The introduction of Premium Economy will also make Singapore Airlines the only long-haul carrier offering the cabin out of Wellington.

Yay PE finally! Can't really stretch to Business Class for Singapore so this is perfect for me. The old 777 on this route was really showing her age.
Just wish NZ Elite Golds got some decent recognition on Star Alliance or the ability to at least book decent seats.

Not sure on this, I just checked a flight in late December and no change in price. May have just been the particular date you were looking at. They still have a subsidy from WLG so it's generally cheaper than any alternative - I booked WLG-MEL in J on SQ because it was cheaper than Y on Air NZ.

There arent any seats in Y either.
Has anyone tried the price comparison with SQ and gotten much luck?

That is interesting. Maybe we'll see seats out of WLG, but throttled to/from MEL. In fact have seen that already on SQ 247/8. Good availability ex WLG, nothing on same flights ex MEL.
