Can awards on tk be booked online? Ive searched a number of routes, which have availability using ua and aeroplan's sites, but none are showing when I search on sq's website.

Yes of course, just do a dummy search for Asia/ Middle East - IST and you'll see that there is availability. But long haul J availability North America/ South America/ Africa - IST is for practical purposes non-existent using KF.
