Did I make a mistake?

I'm traveling r/t from IAH to MAN in a couple months. I paid a bit extra to book an upgradable economy ticket instead of the cheapest ticket, with the idea that I'd transfer some Chase Ultimate Rewards points to use to upgrade to premium economy. Now I keep reading that premium economy isn't worth it (???). But, I've already transferred the miles. They haven't shown up in my Krisflyer account yet, but if I don't use them to upgrade, then what? They'll just be sitting there and I'll be forced to take another trip to use them in some way before they expire. I guess I'm looking for a bit of reassurance that premium economy is enough of a step up from regular economy to be worth using 25,000 miles each way. I can't sleep on planes, and the thought of another international trip sitting straight up in a regular economy seat is rather depressing.

Premium economy is more comfortable than stock standard economy, no doubt about that. My biggest complaint is the degree of recline and being stuck there.

Personally though, if there was availability, and I had access to another 2,000 KF miles, I'd upgrade one direction to business class for 52K miles and in the other direction pay up for an exit row seat in economy, in preference to upgrading to PE in both directions.

That didn't even occur to me. Ugh. That would have been a better idea. I got the last aisle seat in PE going over, so wanted to jump on that and it didn't even occur to me to use all the miles and just upgrade one way. Well, maybe I can go on a crazy shopping spree and come up with another 29,500 UR in a month (lol) and upgrade again to business from PE. That would be 54,500 total, 2,500 more than if I'd just done it right in the first place. Can I even do that? Upgrade twice?

Have you checked there is actually availability? I'm not familiar with Krisflyer but you usually need award space to upgrade
