Equipment change - can I asked to be placed on a later flight?

Hi guys,

I will be flying SIN->BNE (SQ265) in a few months and I realized that 777-200ER w/ 1-2-1 configuration was changed with A330 w/ 2-2-2 regional seat.

Would SQ be receptive if I ask them if they can put me on SQ245 (A350) or is that a no-no with Singapore?

Thank you in advance!

Is this an award or cash ticket? Was it issued by SQ?

If this was issued by another airline, i doubt they’d be willing to help you.

Depends on your fare rules and SQ’s goodwill. AFAIK, Singapore doesn’t have specific laws against changing a ticket, so you’ll only have to worry about SQ.

Issued using Kris miles.

I would call and ask about it. In principle SQ recognizes that the A330 seat is not the same than 2006/2013 J seat and should be open to move you to another flight like the A359 one. I have gotten this done without paying a change fee, but there was award space available on my alternative option proposed. It gets trickier if there is no award space and it needs to be requested to be opened up. Possible, but more of an uphill battle, especially on a route that is served by "mixed" product anyways. Give it a try.

Thanks for that. On a second thought, I figured it's not worth prolonging my layover to get a better flat bed on a daytime flight.... (I am flying TLV->IST->SIN->BNE so by the time I get to SIN I will probably be really awake or really exhausted).

Fair enough. Also messing with a multi segment itinerary like yours usually isn't a great idea as an inexperienced agent can screw things up.

Personally, while not the latest and greatest seat, especially for a day flight I find the A330 Weber seat decent enough for lounging and a a few hours nap. Overnight not great of course, but there is worse out there.

Did SQ change the equipment (which is what your heading implies) or did you not realise what the equipment was when you booked?

I selected seats with 1-2-1 config w/ 777 (as my receipt indicates). The flight got changed to A330 w/ 2-2-2 config.

IMHO, your screenshots do not prove that you have been on 1-2-1 config, since the original flight was listed as 777-200/200ER (slash meaning "200 or 200ER"). That little trick helps SQ, IMHO, because 777-200s are 2-2-2 and only 777-200ERs are 1-2-1. It's true that most of the SIN-BNE are currently being on 777-200ER, not all of them are...

I mean they obviously know that it was 772ER before they swapped it to A330. I really dont have to prove anything here

not to mention that I have already moved on despite them "downgrading" it

At the end of the day, it’s SQ’s goodwill that matters. It doesn’t matter if your flight was originally supposed to get a lie-flat seat or an upright park bench. They don’t guarantee the equipment and products, and it’s stated in the Conditions of Carriage. If they stick to the rules, you’d have little recourse.

AA proactively awarded 20,000 miles as a "sorry" when they swapped out a lie-flat for an angled-flat, but US airlines do tend to give miles more generously.

They're subject to consumer protections which are a foreign concept in some other parts of the world

That's not correct - your confirmation was showing 777-200/200ER which means 777-200 or 777-200ER!!! They left their door open to use either of those... And importantly, 777-200 has 2-2-2 configuration! So I don't know what you argue about - even if they did not swap 777 to A330, you could still end in 2-2-2 config

My point is they would internally know that it was initially 777-200ER .

I am pretty sure I can find the screenshot that showed 1-2-1 since I asked my wife if she wanted to sit in the middle or window.

But the point is - I've already moved on because I don't want to prolong my layover in SIN lol.
