Thank you SQ - unexpected op-up!

Just wanted to say thank you SQ.... I received an op-up to Business from PE on the A350 from MAN-IAH. As a UA *Gold member, I realize that this is a rare event, but was completely surprised that I was selected!

Yes, it is decidedly rare, but it does happen: earlier this year I got a J -> F upgrade flying SIN-MEL, first one in a very long time!.

I thought SQ is strict and never op-up people! Do you look at fare class or status?

In my case I was booked in H fare bucket so I assume it was status that did it.

An op-up is an upgrade for operational reasons - in other words because the original cabin is oversold, which requires moving pax to a higher cabin. It's not a gift, it's a consequence of overbooking by the airline.

Me and my family, op-up from PEY to J. Booked a codeshare flight op by SQ. Without status (Status was not loaded into SQs IT correctly during Chekin with another *A carrier).

It's worth adding that SQ was for the longest one of the very few airlines trying to avoid overbooking situations at any rate and that the fierce pricing competition has forced them to change their stance.

On a recent trip to Paris, they upgraded six passengers to Suites. SQ used to upgrade by Status and within Status by number of years you held Status but there are plenty of posts suggesting this has been modified and now included booking class as well.

Congrats!!!

Op-ups are the best, just got my own first ever on a flight of any significant length on DL (CDG - RDU). Was an awesome surprise to see the new seat assignment spit out at the automated gates.

SQ:
1. Rarely upgrades but when they do - its usually outstation. Hardly never ever from Singapore.
2. SQ will upgrade Solitaire PPS, PPS, KF Gold, then *G
3. See above
4. See above
5. See above
6. NEVER HAPPENS. Its because op ups must be documented and explained by the airport Duty Manager.
6A. Staff, and only AD or ID tickets don't get op ups either
7. See 2-6.

Can't you capitalise where needed?
