Why do MH and SQ codeshare on KUL-SIN?

Why do MH and SQ codeshare on KUL-SIN?
I thought they were basically in direct competition with each other on this route...why do they put each other's code on the others' flight?

Not forgetting prior to the rise of LCCs into the market, They operated the shuttle service, where there were no discounted tickets on the sinkulsin sectors and they can accept each other’s ticket without issues.. And of course shuttle tickets valid on each other only.
Their friendship on this route came a long way.
