Dress Code in F
Is there a dress code in First Class ? What do you wear in F ? |
Anything that you feel is appropriate really, as long as you're not actually travelling in J and hoping for an operational upgrade into F (in which case, you might as well not hold your breath).
But shorts and sleeveless t-shirts do tend to raise a few eyebrows. Whether you should care about that, is up to you really. And it's certainly not a DJ/black bow tie occasion like the QE2 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif |
If I travel with clients, full dress suit or business casual (depending on which client and how uptight they are). If I travel for pleasure, I will usually wear jeans, boots and a shirt... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

for any flight out of singapore, you will find me in a Saville Road linen suit, and an Armani egyption cotton open neck shirt. that is more a question of dealing with the humidity of singapore. Otherwise youll find me in a pair of chinos and a rugby shirt or open neck shirt (usualy Thomas Pink)
Hope that helps Jon |
Where whatever you feel comfortable in, especially if you are flying longhaul. Yes, you may get some stares in yoru jeans and sweatshirt, but don't let that bother you. I find how you conduct yourself rather than how you look, will get you good service.

From my limited experience you will find almost everything ranging from a formal suit&tie down to shorts and T-Shirt in F BUT with a little bit more style than in C/Y (especially the few women).
Now thats only true until they hand out pyjamas (CX/SQ) or one-size-fits-all sweaters (LH). After that anyone looks ridiculous. |
I am just off LH 738 from HKG in First. I have done many many F flighs on SQ and LH in the last 12 months and have NEVER seen anyone there wearing a tie. Today in LH, out of 11 people 8 had sneakers on, one person even walked through the cabin in his under shorts.
Actually airline employees frequently are required to wear a tie when travelling in F but they usually remove as soon as they are in the plane |
Thanks for your response everyone!
I resume that I should wear comfortable clothes, formal is not necessary. ....and Uli, I promise that I don’t walk in my underwear through the cabin http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Just a minute... if you are a HOT 20 to 30s female, I welcome you to walk around in your undies, thank you very much.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I have a few suits tailor made in Saville Row (Zegna handmade are just out of this world), but is there new competition ;-) ? Secondly; I never ever get a on plane in a suit - I find changing in toilets in the air isn't my style (too much turbulance can make this deeply unfunny). I always hunt for places on the ground. As for the F question; smart casual never goes badly in any cabin class IMHO. What a Hoot. I am sooooo (not) impressed with 'name/brand droppers'.
FWIW there's probably a Saville Road in every village in Britain, and more than a few here in the U.S. |
