A330 vs 777 in J

I'm about to book several J tix for an overnight flight. Ideally, KIX-SIN-DPS, as we will be in Kyoto. But that's an A330. The HND-SIN-DPS is on a 777. Those J seats look A LOT nicer. Is it worth the hassle of heading back from Kyoto to HND to travel on the 777?

The B777 has seats where you get up and turn them into truly flat beds, whereas you press buttons to adjust the A330 seats and they don't go fully flat, plus they are a lot narrower.

So, if you want to sleep, the B777 seats are much nicer IMO.

I would go with whatever is most convenient for you. I don't personally go out of my way to avoid the regional J.

I know this doesn't apply to you, but incase things change and someone else come across this thread, the 777 full flat seats are on the 777-300ER and 777-200ER. The 777-200 and 777-300 have the same J seats as the A330.

KIX is going to be a lot easier for departure from Kyoto, and the thought of spending 3 hours on the train to HND is definitely inclining me to KIX regardless of the regional seats. I also have considered GA in coach (b/c they only release 1 J apparently and we are 5). This one is a day flight, so I could tolerate the econ.

Are all A330s scheduled to leave SIA by end of 2019? These have a ghastly J hard product.

They're OK if they are just used on 2-3 hr sectors. What is wrong with them on a sector like SIN-BKK? Better than you get on most airlines globally on sectors of such length. Try "Eurobusiness"!

But not ok on sectors like SIN PER exceeding 5 hours

End of 2020 is the current plan, but there should only be 8 left by April 2020.

I'm with you on this for intra-Asia daytime flights except Japan and Korea. Even the older (blueish) Ultimo recliners are better than what is offered in Europe or even US (some Transcon flights are exceptions).

Regional 777-200s and A330s have the worst seat ever in the entire SQ fleets.
I did got on an overnight A330 to ADL (about 7 hours) a couple of years ago, and boy, that was bad. My recommendation is that if you have the choice, fly 77W out of HND (or NRT)

Up until about 2010ish on flights to MEL overnight (SQ237) it was very common to get older style (recliner) seats that didn’t go into any sort of flat position and thus very difficult to sleep on at all and were configured 2-3-2 in the 777. Those seats were definitely worse.

I lucked out! My horrible A333 was recently switched to B781.

I had a 781 flight BKK-SIN in J during the day, so I didn't try to sleep. I did recline the seat all the way, just to see what it was like. Similar to the 777-300ER, the lie flat is at an angle and, at least for my size 12 US feet, the footwell seemed like it would have been a bit of an issue on an overnight flight. Also, the seatback had a bit of an overhang to it, so there might be the possibility of some claustrophobia in some people. It wasn't my favorite J seat, but it was far, far, FAR from the worst J seat I've flown in. I've never flown the 333 J seat on SQ, but from the descriptions, you'll have a distinct improvement from that.

Do you mean the 777-300? The 777-300ER aircraft have full flat beds. The 777-300 have the same seats as the A330.

What do you mean by "lie flat at an angle?" I flew the 787-10 to NRT in J and it was most definitely totally non-angled flat.
