Searching for United award flights to be booked with kris flyer

I'm on united's site and see economy availability for PHX>LAX>HNL>OGG. I don't like the PHX>LAX flight, so I thought I could piece together another flight and searched for awards on just the PHX>LAX route. But no award space shows, not even the original flight that came up in the original itinerary.

So that leaves me wondering, does krisflyer allow me to piece together other itineraries (as long as I don't backtrack)? If so, how can I search for award space that would be allowed?

I also read somewhere that connections more than 4 hours is considered a stopover? So I couldn't fly in the night before for an early morning connection (without using the stopover)?

Don't use United's website for this search. They may make more awards available to members of their own program than to Krisflyer, so what you see on United's site may not actually be available using Krisflyer miles.

Best bet is to search for United awards via Air Canada's frequent flyer program Aeroplan, which lets you search online and will give you an idea of what awards United is making available to partner airlines.

As for routing, yes in theory if you can find multiple segments with availability you can connect them together, though more than about 2 connections on a one-way and you may start to get some pushback. No more than 4 hours for a connection on a domestic itinerary. (If you were going international you can have up to a 24 hour connection.)

I read a few blogs that said to search on united without logging in to avoid that problem. But it's still inaccurate?

I tried looking on aeroplan and I see nothing when entering Phx>OGG. When I enter LAX>OGG, I don't see the flight I had originally seen on united (LAX>HNL>OGG). But when I enter LAX>HNL, I can see that one. It says I can't search one ways when I enter HNL>OGG.

So now I'm thoroughly confused on how to find available united awards.
