Using miles and cash

Hi there
I am new to using FF (for anything really :))
I want to book flights to UK from Australia for me and my son (13yrs), using both points (FF) and cash. However I cannot 'pool' the points to book the seats at the same time, I have to book them separately. I am a bit worried about this in case it goes haywire and I am unable to book both of us on same flight. Does anyone have any 'handy hints' ideas on how to go about this, we both have KF accounts.
Many thanks all :)

Miles and cash offers quite poor value for your miles. Straight redemption is normally better.
This worked for me recently: If you are looking to book two independent redemptions on the same flight just do a dummy booking for 2 seats. If there are two seats available then make the independent bookings quickly!

If you're doing a return, try booking the outbound pair of seats on one account, and the inbound on the other. You lose the ability to schedule a free stopover but that's about the only drawback.
