SQ gives Schooling 1 million miles + KF elite gold

For winning Singapore's first ever gold at the Olympics, shouldn't SQ give at least PPS and not the useless KF elite gold?

Come on, SQ!

(The 1 million miles are well deserved though!)

And add to that his F flight from GIG to SIN! :)

Doubt he cares. He lives in the US.

Oh, and they're both as useless as each other.

Watch the debate at SQ's Facebook page.

Some praised the gesture, others lambasted SQ as stingy.

Well, given that his school is in Texas, that works out to almost 10 one way First class saver tickets for IAH-MAN-SIN. Or SFO-SIN/LAX-SIN.

Fine and dandy until he runs out of that one million miles and has to fly Y :p

Don't think he needs to fly Y again with the Million dollars.

KF gold could be useful if he ever finds himself needing to fly around on United.

Yes indeed. Unless you are flying on SQ or MI, there is no difference between KF gold and PPS.:D

The bigger question is, do those miles have the same three year expiration? :D

It doesn't stretch too far... small compensation / subsidy for what the family have had to pay for this training and competition travel for the past years.

Or whether the KF gold status lasts only the first year and he needs to requalify if he wishes to retain it!

He also gets 1MM Sing dollars.

SQ can do better than that.

When UA is the official airline for Team USA?

Will the IRS try to tax it?

The US tax bite is worse than in Singapore.

$1M in Singapore dollars (roughly US$750k) from the Singaporean government would be a welcome payment! However, US$750k doesn't go very far in Singapore. Real estate is very expensive. Car prices are crazy (think US$100k to US$200k for an ordinary car or cheaper BMW).

Yes he will be taxed for his prize money. A certain % of the $1m will also go into the SIngapore Swimming Association for development of future talents like him.
