CNTraveler - This is why SQ is the best in the world

http://www.cntraveler.com/stories/20...t-in-the-world

I wonder what class the author was traveling in. Anyone else have similar experiences at JFK?

It seems that another FTer had something to say about SQ ground service out of JFK.

The biggest difference between the article and the FTer is entitlement. The FTer had a sense of entitlement (flying J, paid J and PPS) versus the author of the article just complied with the agent's request and went about catching her flight. Ground handling staffs are just doing their job by following rules. They shouldn't have to make exceptions outside of their standard policy.

The FTer clearly holds that 'entitlement' within reason; as an SQ customer, flying J with PPS no less, there is a certain level of service that is expected; especially since it is a medical necessity. OP has even offered to allow his bag to be gate checked; but was met with utter contempt from the manager. Of course; this does not represent SQ as a whole; but as an airline that takes pride in it's service, this is worrying.
Well isn't this ironic? I don't suppose the ground service staff should make exceptions for the CN reporter, which was very likely the case, as this isn't standard policy.
1. I was blatantly lied to, when I was told by [FM] that I could not take my carry-on into the passenger area and subsequently have it gate-checked

2. I was threatened with being offloaded without cause, no small matter, especially when wholly unwarranted

3. I was again blatantly lied to when he claimed he was the only manager, when I requested to speak with the station manager - I was not told she was unavailable or busy, but rather that there was no other manager

4. [FM]'s demeanour and words were rude, callous, dismissive, insulting, and completely unbecoming of a representative of the airline

5. My bag, once checked, was not tagged as priority baggage - this appears to me to be maliciousness at worst and incompetence at best
According to his account; the manager comportment was clearly unacceptable.
I applaud the customer rep's competence in handling the issue however^

Personally, SQ fails miserably in ground service, since most of them are outsourced.

So the article let me wonder: how much did the author exactly know about the real SQ?

You would fit in perfectly in Singapore.

Who cares? Does anyone over the age of 12 actually believe those ratings?

Where exactly did you see it?

A common mistake - many lists are in alphabetical order. Since SQ starts with a S, it is common that SQ lists last.
