Singapore Airlines announces Dusseldorf route

Singapore Airlines announces Dusseldorf route

Singapore Airlines will launch a nonstop A350-900 service to Dusseldorf next year.

The carrier will commence the three-times weekly route on July 21. It will operate on Mondays/Tuesdays, Thursdays/Fridays and Saturdays/Sundays.

Outbound flight SQ338 will depart Singapore at 2330 and arrive in Dusseldorf at 0630 the next day. Return flight SQ337 will leave Dusseldorf at 1130 and land in Singapore at 0610 the following day.

In September, Cathay Pacific launched a four-times weekly Hong Kong-Dusseldorf service (see news, September 4).

Lee Wen Fen, SIA's senior vice president, marketing planning, said: "Flights to Düsseldorf will complement our existing services to Europe, and be served by all-new Airbus A350-900s fitted with Singapore Airlines' latest cabin products.

"With this addition, Singapore Airlines will serve the three largest airports in Germany, including Frankfurt and Munich."

SIA has 67 A350s on order, seven of which are for a new ultra long-range aircraft that Airbus is developing for the airline (see news, October 13).

Its planned route to Dusseldorf is subject to regulatory approval.

Finally we have a new route from Singapore Airlines, however I hope they can rationalise some routes within Europe, such as separating MAN and MUC as a start.

I wonder when these seats will be available for redemption? Also whether it will be classed as Europe I or Europe II for miles pricing?

Only Economy Flexi and PE available for now, priced at S$2,577.80 and S$3,177.80 respectively. Will have to see what the promo rates are priced at.

I'm quite sure it'd be Europe II...

From wikipedia, re Dusseldorf airport:
It is located approximately 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) north of downtown Düsseldorf, and some 20 kilometres (12 mi) south-west of Essen in the Rhine-Ruhr area, Germany's largest metropolitan area.
The surrounding area has a significant population (>10m).

I am sure SQ has other plans. They are probably looking for another gateway to N.America and its probably going to be SIN-DUS-XXX. As well, DUS has about 35% of the total EU population, living in and around DUS.

Must be a radius of at least 600km or so, that way you include all of Germany, SE England, most of Denmark and half of France! 35% of 500m is of course 150m.
