Passed through a couple of days after the lounge reopened following a fairly substantial upgrade and was quite impressed.
Quite similar design aesthetic to SYD following the upgrade and also very familiar touches present in the CX lounges in HKG (particularly in the bathrooms and workstations).
A bar has been added with beer on tap, wine and spirits served and the food offering whilst not huge has been upgraded to include more substantial options (chicken cacciatore, pasta, salads, soups, sweets). A separate First area is also available which I was not able to see from within the main lounge.
Toilets and showers are now available and were adequate.
Although lack of natural lighting is still a bugbear the environment feels more inviting now with more comfortable chairs and lounges and option to sit in the dining area or away in more quiet sections.
Overall quite nice for an outstation lounge and worth a look in if travelling on Star flights out of HKG, certainly the the best Star lounge now in the airport.

The lounge is very cozy but the food selection is similar with CX Arrival lounge but SIA lounge is self-service. You can order wanton noodle to lounge attendance. They have a small bar with alcohol beverage be served. You can order cocktail, wine, champagne from bartender but he is super busy.

Had a small *A lounge crawl myself yesterday, and quite impressed with the refurbed SQ lounge. It's roughly the same standard as the CX J lounges, although at a much smaller scale without any specialisation features (eg the bakery at The Bridge or the health bar at The Cabin) but it's still excellent for an outstation lounge. If you don't mind the lack of views, I think it's no longer worth the trip to the Y junction where the other *A lounges if the flight departs from gate 30 and below.

1st class lounge section
The 1st class lounge section is much improved. Upon entry to a separate area (with frosted automatic doors so it is totally separate) you get a hot towel as if you boarded an airplane, and then a menu in case you want to eat before the flight so you can just get some sleep.
Waiting here for SQ002 HKG-SFO, and it's not bad at all!
The biggest, biggest change to this lounge for both sections is that it has restrooms and a shower inside the lounge. Previously you had to go outside the lounge to use the restroom.

Bumping this old thread up to update the position of current (Q3 2018) shower and toilet renovation works...reception said on 24 Sept 2018 that they still didn't know when the showers and toilets would be back because Airport Authority was still reviewing the paperwork.
So right now the best *A showers are in UA lounge near gate 61 IMHO. Or maybe the free shower facilities provided by HKG (near gate 22, on transit level, before transit security) which have vending machine selling supplies (https://www.hongkongairport.com/en/p...wer-facilities).

Keep in mind - UC is located at the another side of the airport.
While it is convenient to take the APM to that side, there is nothing going backward. SQ usually uses gates with small numbers.
So make sure you have enough time to go back and forth.

There is a PP lounge with showers at Gates 1-4 if you have access, which is nearer to the SQ lounge/dep gates
I think the showers at the SQ lounge have re-opened, right?

On October 19th the staff in the SQ lounge indicated the bathrooms would be closed through at least early if not mid 2019 ... they're waiting for a building permit of some kind to do some amount of construction.
