New Silver Kris lounge in SYDNEY. Open
Lounge opened today after soft opening yesterday I'm on SQ232 in J departing 1215
I'm in the Business lounge. A lovely manager called Amanda told me about the First Class section ( on your right, left to Business ) It has Skychairs with a stunning view of the Tarmac , a tasting area, buffet and cosy secluded wing chairs, but I'm sure someone will post a more elaborate review. The business section is large bright and airy with plenty of seating and a great panoramic window. Ceiling is a bit low and ugly and I wouldn't have chosen the carpet but otherwise very nice with comfy dining chairs, and same cisy wing chairs. Same stunning view of Tarmac minus the Skychairs. Nice toilet with standard Sq amenities and two Unisex toilets with snazzy showers but one of them is not working. The food selection was set for breakfast and very comprehensive, incl veal sausages, mushrooms, fresh baked goods. I went for the Thai red curry which was Ok great cold buffet with smoked salmon and cheeses. Nespresso machine Standard SKL spirits but just OK wine ( red better than white) and champagne stock... If this is cost cutting its plain silly. Ill wait till I'm on board. There's a small parlour with tea coffee and biscuits just next to the entry so last minute pax can grab a quick cup before boarding. Nice thought! Very friendly and attentive staff, completely on the ball. They seem to offer table service but I don't think it's working and I suspect they ill drop it. I think it's unnecessary anyway. Overall 10/10 compared to other Asia Pacific outstation SKLs I've used. Beats MEL, MNL, BKK etc easily and much better than DEL which must be the only station in the world where the Lufthansa Senator Lounge beats the SKL hands down. Happy loungings! Privileged to do the first report. |
can't wait for others to post pics!

Great to hear - flying UA F from SYD-LAX on the 18th, and was hoping to go here instead of Air NZ's lounge. I've read that access to the lounge on a UA flight can be stingy at times, hopefully that won't be the case Wednesday. If I am allowed access, I'll take plenty of pics and report back here.

Glad it's open. Just my luck, I flew in to SYD last Sunday and had to settle for the Koru lounge :td:. Overcrowded, almost nonexistent wi-fi.

Currently at the SilverKris lounge in the First Class section. I have a United GF BP, and the ladies were more than welcoming. The only issue is that United's tickets don't say "First Class" anywhere on the physical ticket, so they had a hard time distinguishing if I was in first or what. The woman who checked me in the United counter told me I could only use the AirNZ lounge, but I thought I would go to the silverkris lounge and try and sure enough, I got in. Clearly there seems to be some miscommunication.
On to the lounge. It's quite nice. I don't have much to compare it to other than United's IFL at SFO and United's IFL at JFK, along with various United Clubs, and it blows all of them out of the water. There is a sleek buffet table with really good food, although the beef is a little tough...still quite tasty. Veuve Clicquot is a nice touch, better than anything United offers. The bathrooms are very nice as well. Biggest downfall is the decor. I'm currently sitting in a chair that is three times my size, I'm 5'8". Also, there are bizarre looking work stations. It's not quite modern so much as it's just bizarre. Just not my taste, but I can't complain because I don't really care about the decor that much of lounges. Very attentive staff, refilling of champagne without asking, checking up on me, etc. Fast wifi as well. I don't know what the original lounge looked like, but I assume this is an upgrade. I'll be sure to take photos on the way out and post them tomorrow when I'm back in SFO. Shame is I have to get onto United's plane and not Singapore's in 40 minutes. Would love to fly in the suite :) |
Great to hear about it opening and the other United experience. I'm flying back to California on Friday in GlobalFirst and was hoping to check out (granted it being opened) new Singapore lounge.

The seats in the newly refurbished MEL First Lounge, are flat out uncomfortable. High and straight backed, and impossible to "lounge" in. You have to sit in them bolt upright like your school teacher used to tell you to do. Did these abominations make it to the SYD lounge?

My friend went into the lounge the other day. she was flying on thai at 10am
apparently they had to go and get her product from the kitchen there was nothing on the buffet until the sing air flight was ready to depart will find out the whole story when she returns. |
It still looks really small compaired to the NZ lounge, how do they fit an A380 load of passengers in there?
