That happened to me once too. It appears as thought LAX-SIN via HND is available as married segments, but LAX-NRT won't sell on its own.
I never actually tried it, but I'd recommend booking LAX-NRT/HND-SIN online, then call to make a change to the reservation and substitute NRT-SIN. The married segment may continue to cause problems even after the booking is confirmed, but it's worth a shot given the very low redeposit fee for SQ.

Thanks for the advises. For now, I'm booked as following
LAX-NRT SQ11 First / Suites
HND-SIN SQ633 First
SIN-BKK SQ972 Business
I was able to convince the rep on phone to extend 15% discount on miles as I cannot book it online. Initially the rep said there is no way of doing this. I said I know few of my friends (fellow flyertalkers) were able to book this mixed class redemption. After checking with her supervisor, the rep was able to book this. Interestingly, my booking shows LAX-NRT segment as "O" class instead of "R" class. Also, she put me on wait list for LAX-NRT-SIN. Not sure if it is going to clear or not. My flight is in August 1st week. Hope it clears by then. If not, suck it up & enjoy suites from LAX - NRT. Thanks again for your advise / help.

This is a major game-changer when it comes to redemptions.
I mean SYD to SIN for 46,750 miles in C or 63,750 miles in F... urh... Suites that is.
Am I missing something here, or is it even worth purchasing the extra 17k miles to take advantage of this major change to the redemption structure?

Well I guess it just depends whether 1. you have the miles, and 2. what you'll do onboard.
Once the OMG SUITES!!!! phase is out of the way after trying it for the first time (everyone who can, should try it once I'd say), I could imagine that certain flights like SIN-SYD late departure will involve just making the seat into a bed and sleeping. In which case, J will be sufficient to most people, and the additional facilities and food/beverage of R will be somewhat wasted.
I haven't yet tried R myself, but it's just an item to tick off the list for me. Plenty of other airlines and interesting cabins to try.

Quick update on mixed class bookings. You can't do this online so I booked two segments and then later called to combine and was told that they will honor the 15% discount if you call when you make the original booking but not if you call afterwards and try to combine the segments.
