For short haul rotues not worth it as for just about the same amount paid in taxes, you can buy the cheapest fare without having to redeem your points.

On the short haul routes the fuel surcharges are about half of the total fare.

The fuel surcharges are proportionally only very small part of the business fare, and would be more bang for the buck.
