Elite miles expiring end of year
Ok so if I'm not mistaken, SQ is using the calendar year and not the date when we joined KF as an expiry date for Elite miles, is that correct?
Meaning, my Elite miles will be roughly 24,000 by December 31, 2011... So my question is: - is it worth it for me to book a quick trip to a close by destination (anwhere between Thailand and Malaysia-Indonesia or Vietnam) before end of year and spend around $500-$800 (say I can afford this and it would make a nice little weekend getaway) so that I reach Elite Silver? My reasoning being: if i reach Elite Silver before December 31, for 2012, I would gain 25% extra miles on SQ/MI flights, is that correct? Or should I just let the Elite miles expire and start over in 2012? |
Actually KF calculate Elite miles based on 12 month periods not calendar year.
As far as KF Silver goes, you really have to see if you fly enough next year to justify $500 for 25% bonus! Let's say you fly another 24K or so next year exclusively with SQ, MI or VS. That would yield 6K in bonus miles. At $500 spend to have to gain those miles you're basically spending $0.08 per mile! In contrast you can actually buy KF miles outright for $0.04! Silver is not worth spending on. |

The 25% is RDM only, not EQM
