It's 3AM and the 'light bite' refreshment is....

....a choice of Penne with bolognese (meat) sauce

or

Fried rice with chicken, peas and carrot

Light beverages: Coffee - Tea

I fly approx every six weeks from New York JFK (747) to and from Singapore via Frankfurt on SQ25/SQ26. I have to pay for my own ticket so I'm in 'cattle class' (and sad that I can't go on the old EWR-AMS-SIN 747 as I have a house in New Jersey but the cost of the direct biz-class only EWR-SIN flight is too prohibitive)

So just as I'd settled down to sleep at last on the JFK-FRA leg a few days ago, the cabin lights were turned on and a flight attendant orders me to raise my reclined seat for the meal service about 1.5 to 2 hours before landing....and the choice was the penne pasta or the fried rice.

I glanced at my watch and it was still on New York (Eastern) time.....3AM!

Now back when I was barely out of my teens I'd go out with my mates to a nightclub at the weekends until they closed at 2am and then we would go to the nearest late night chippy and have a hot pie & chips or a kebab (it makes me queasy to think about it now!) :D However, I do find the meal choice to be rather strange - after all at 3AM ET it would be around 9AM in Germany ie. breakfast-time - (where quite a few passengers leave the SQ flight).

I would have thought an omelette or pastries with some fruit would have been a better offering, after all they do serve breakfast on the FRA-SIN leg just prior to landing. The problem is, it's a long time to wait for the next meal if going on to Singapore if you want to skip this one! (I'm fortunate, at least I have access to the lounge and find a snack there, unlike many other pax who don't have this option and are pretty much stuck in the 'holding' area)

i would definetely prefer the offered meal since i hate (and i mean it) breakfast on planes (i can't see the F*** omlette no more)...

too sad (for me) that LH has changed the service from a proper meal to breakfast on its middle east flights to frankfurt (which are all overnight flights)...

Ha ha ha... This is a good problem to have. I for one would not complain if they give me something more substantial than what i think a meal serving should include. You just never know when your next meal would be when you are flying.

Take a Pill?

Go to sleep and dream about not having anything at all on some carriers? Sigh.......

Can't stand the "egg" stuff either but then i wonder why they can't just offer a decent sandwich?
