This thread seems to be a little inactive now... let’s see if I can inject a little quick KF miles grab excitement!

If you currently live in Singapore, have never owned a KF AMEX card (the blue one) and interested to earn a whopping 14,100 KF miles for just SGD 1,000 spend on a free card (14.1 MPD baby!) - send me a PM for special referral! It’s a far more generous offer than what you can get from the public AMEX website.

Carrot, nice find there. How good is the card though after the initial bonus? A keeper or straight in the desk drawer until cancellation time? :)

For those who are NTB can get $200 cash back when applying for a DBS credit card at the moment using promo code FLASH200 . I just submitted my application for a Woman's World Card.

Initially I thought it’s a card that I’d use just to meet the minimum sign on requirement, then into the drawer it goes.

But now I realise Amex still gives miles where other cards have stopped (eg. charity donations) and they regularly have interesting rebate promotions (eg. $10 rebate for $20 spending at new merchants that started accepting Amex, $2 rebate for $10 spending using contactless, $1 off for up to 5 spendings using Amex QR typically small value items at hawker centres) so I’ve been using them occasionally when it suits.

Still one of the best cards out there for internet purchases. I bet quite a lot of guys (including myself) have this card even though it's geared towards women. :)

Sure, it used to be more useful when you could just top-up a prepaid Fevo card for max points and then spend away locally using that card. But it's still great for those internet purchases and I'll hold on to mine for as long as those annual fee waivers keep coming through.

Those were the days. And when we were able to pay IRAS taxes with CC using AXS machines without fee. :)

But DBS can be sneaky - for example, they removed points earning on recurring payments without expressly notifying cardholders.

I noticed that even with the debit card. First it was 5% rebate on all contactless... then 3%... now it's up to 3%, but local contactless is actually 1%.

For a while I actually liked the quick 5% more than any miles-generating card, but now it seems it's time to leave the debit card in the drawer so to speak.

Although quite a few banks now have enticing miles offers, I still feel that you have pretty much all bases covered if you stick to the DBS+UOB+Citi trio.

Plus I'm quite impressed with the new multicurrency cards (accounts) that have popped up in recent years, allowing you to save on currency conversions done by Visa/MC (not to mention the bank's surcharge on conversions) and make purchases without even being charged these additional, silly surcharges (like foreign transaction fee even though you are billed in your local currency). Again, you really need to do some number crunching to see if it's worth whipping out a miles-generating card for those, knowing that the fees will mount up.

Looks like all quiet in this Best Credit Cards for SQ KF thread. may be with travel opening up, thread will get active again. I am using mainly UOB Privimiles AMEX and Mastercard for most purchaes as it gives ( effectively) 1.4 miles per S$ spend. UOB Reserve at 1.6 miles per S$ looks interesting but pricey and by Invitation only but has several other benefits like ability to buy KF miles "cheap" and ability to transfer UNI$ to CX too

demue Feb 11, 2023 10:46 pm

Doesn't miles purchase (facility) for UOB Reserve come in around 1.7cent/mile? Sure better than for PriviMiles (2.1cent/mile?), but not a bargain either. If there are Citi Payall promos (fingers crossed) coming again for income tax season where one would get 2.5mls/$ for a 2% charge, that would make for a much better value proposition if you got a bunch of taxes to pay and other stuff as well.

If you just want to generate miles for no apparent payment reasons, sure the UOB facility could be handy, but not a bargain.

You really are missing out quite a bit by not getting at least one of the 4mpd cards though. Shifting just $1k/mth of spend from your 1.4mpd card to a 4mpd one gives an additional 30k+ miles a year for basically no additional effort.

Glad to see this thread resurrected.

Agree, you really should be aiming to get 4 mpd on more or less all spend that isn't (EDIT: ) rent/education/insurance/hospital bills.

I'd say include spend for hospitals there (not getting 4mls/$) as nothing goes for 1k SGD in a hospital here (assuming a procedure is done or so, not checks or just specialist visits). With the right card at least one can earn 1.x mls/$ especially for private hospitals. YMMV.

You're right -- I'll edit my post to include hospital bills.

I believe UOB and DBS don't award any points at all for hospital bills. Citi does.
