Correct. Just note though that SQ is not part of the promo for 6mpd via expedia.com.sg using DBS Altitude. You can check the T&Cs here: https://www.dbs.com.sg/iwov-resource...xpedia-tnc.pdf

UPDATE: Signup miles as of 1 March 2018 has reverted to the normal level of 35,000 but referral fee has increased to $200. Please PM if you would like a referral.

Revising the math:
Card fee $488
+ Fee to convert to KF or AM $42.80
- Half share of referral fee $100
- Conservative value of 4 airport limo transfers $80 (HSBC Premier members only)
= $350.80 or buying 35,000 miles at 1 cent per mile (still half of the usual value of 2 cent per mile)

(or if you value the airport limo transfers at its market price of $45 each, buying miles cost works down to just $250.80 or 0.72 cent per mile.)

Going to spread the joy! For those who want to apply for the HSBC Visa Infinite, please PM me for a referral and I’m happy to share the referral bonus of $150 equally too.

Particularly good value for “buying 40,000 signup miles” if you’re a HSBC Premier customer by paying the $488 signup fee. There’s also an UNPUBLISHED benefit solely for HSBC Premier customers in the form of 4 free one-way airport limo transfers + 4 expedited immigration clearances. Not particularly fussed with the 4 expedited clearances, but I value each airport limo transfer to conservatively $20 per trip (if I had alternatively taken a normal taxi or Uber to Changi Airport) although market value will be closer to $45 per trip.

So working the math for 40,000 signup miles:
Card fee $488
+ Fee to convert to KF or AM $42.80
- Half share of referral fee $75
- Value of 4 airport limo transfers $80
= $375.80 or buying miles at 0.94 cent per mile ONLY!!

(or if you value the airport limo transfers at its market price of $45 each, cost works down to just $275.80 or 0.69 cent per mile.)

Is there a 'termination fee' for cancelling the HSBC VI? On HWZ a person mentions he was charged a SGD200 fee for cancelling his card.

carrotjuice Mar 27, 18 7:35 pm

No termination fee - that was “fake news” at best. I confirmed this with the sales person before signing up myself.

You can cancel after a year and if the annual renewal fee is already charged to your statement, they will reverse it before that statement due date and you don’t have to pay the amount due on the statement. The annual fee is always for the NEXT year.

What's the income requirement?

Does anyone have recent recommendations for IRAS payments?

Anything 'safe' beyond UOB PRVI + CardUp?

Traflying Apr 2, 18 9:06 pm

I've had no issue getting my DBS WWMC's annual fee waived. Is it eas to get it waved for UOB PRVI? Planning to apply for this one for my local general spending.

It's getting more difficult now. Sometimes you get turned down via the automated system when they send you a decline text message, but when that happens and you call again and speak to a CSO who can somehow "override" the decline. I have always gotten mine waived either via the automated system, or failing which by speaking to a CSO.

elleana Apr 4, 18 7:56 pm

Most annoying thing about the PRVI is that they use miles to offset annual fee. I guess if one forgets to call in for a waiver under normal circumstances its not terminal as you get some miles, but a mile deduction is absolutely not acceptable IMO.

Agree. My solution is that I transfer out my points once a year prior to annual renewal date / fee deduction. That way it comes as cash cost and I go the waiver route.

Surely there is no need to do that and incur a miles transfer fee once a year? If they deducted the points, call in and get a waiver. If approved they will refund the points. If not, call in and say you want to terminate the card, have them refund the points and only then transfer. The annual fee is always for the coming, not previous, year.

I notice, there is an option in Airbnb to "Pay less up front" such that the total is split into 2 payments, is this kind of option still applicable for 4x mpd if I use the DBS WWMC?

I don't see why not, DBS have no idea what your payment arrangement is with Airbnb and just see a charge from them.

Thanks, I use my UOB points once a year to top up my KF balance as I have sufficient redemption activity to not have issues with expiry in KF. So no extra cost for the transfer as I would do it anyways and just timing wise I do it before next years fee hits. This won't make sense for everyone obviously. YMMV.

Lobang to share!

Recently got Mileslife app, which credits air miles for spending. Sometimes the payout may be more than if I just use credit card - especially if got 4x airmiles promo (like now!)

Remember to use with DBS card if you have, got +50% promo till the end of this year

New signups get free 1000 miles also using this promo code: FIRST1000 :D
