Hyatt Place Rancho Cordova/Sacramento CA REVIEW - MASTER THREAD

Stayed over Thanksgiving night and was favorably impressed. I was expecting something like a Hampton Inn but this was much nicer than your average Hampton (or even Embassy Suites) where I've never found a 42-inch high def TV. Staff was excellent. I only paid $71 for the night (I assume discounted because of the holiday) so it was a great value.

The only problem with this hotel is the location: a LONG ways out of downtown, and nothing I could see to amuse (restaurants, bars) in the area. Perhaps some of our SMF posters could provide some insight. Glad I nailed a FFN from staying there, though; sorry Hilton and Starwood!

Yes, if you want to be near Sacramento this hotel is not the one. I had business in the area so for me the location was perfect.

Since this thread hasn't been updated in awhile...

Staying here now. Pretty standard HP, usual layout, smallish lobby and breakfast area. 2 public Internet PCs and printer in an alcove. Couple conference rooms. 2 self-service check-in kiosks by front door. 6 stories, 2 elevators centrally located. Smallish pool. Each room has usual HP amenties, sofa, flat screen TV w/AV ports, etc. A/C unit in wall, fan fairly quiet, but compressor a bit loud. Shower/tub with curtain. Room is decent, clean, well kept. Wireless Internet seems decent enough.

Parking lot is a bit small -- probably just enough parking spaces for each room. Trouble is, some people take up 2 spaces, and/or squeeze their SUVs into compact spaces, effectively using 2 spaces. (In fact, right now, there's some guy's pickup towing an extended trailer taking up 5 spaces in the lot.)

Property is just off the freeway, but rooms soundproofed enough not to notice. As previously posted, there's nothing to see/do out here; downtown Sacramento is at least a 20+ min drive, w/o traffic. There's a larger shopping center (Sunrise Mall) about 20+ min drive north on Sunrise Blvd. There're some strip malls and fast food places on the other side of the freeway.

This could be a MR location, if it fits your geography. Or, as in my case, an overnight stop on the way to Hyatt Tahoe via Hwy-50 and South Shore. (There's suppose to be a new Hyatt Place in Roseville opening Spring 2010, along I-80.)

Paying $71 for the night. Guess rates haven't gone up much...or they came back down.

I've done some stays here and will be back again late tonight on the way to Reno tomorrow morning. Last trip I made my way over to Frys on Sunrise in Roseville, but that's all the way over off of I80 and a couple miles away.

Staying here, as others have mentioned, as a stopover on the way to Hyatt Lake Tahoe. It's cookie cutter HP. Assigned a room on the second floor next to the elevator. Luckily, the place is not crowded as we've arrived the night before Thanksgiving. But the soundproofing, for this room at least, is very bad. You can hear the elevator & bell, doors slamming (which they do all on their own when you let go of the handle), people talking in the halls as if you were right next to them. Glad we're sound sleepers. On second thought, maybe that's the reason I'm up early killing time on FT--internet connection is good!

Like everyone else, paid $71 AAA rate ($69 advance purchase, nonrefundable, also available). The evening help wasn't great, telling me there was an ATM in the lobby but there wasn't. They won't cash checks for Diamonds either. There is a Bank of America ATM a couple of blocks away.

Food menu on TV said the full menu was available until 11 pm. But at 10:45, the kitchen was long-closed, and only a few pre-packaged food items were available in the cabinet at the front desk. No microwave in room.

I don't recommend visiting the eateries across the freeway. The old part of Rancho Cordova has a lot of trailer trash, highlighted by a prominent 99c store. The community hasn't fully recovered from the closure of the Mather Air Force Base a decade ago. But those without a car can take light rail to the Zinfandel station in the vicinity, and walk across the freeway to the hotel.

A better 'hood for food is at Sunrise Blvd., one exit east on the 50 freeway.

The hotel's fitness room is OK, but the small swimming pool isn't heated, so it's not practical to use in winter though there's water in it.

My bathroom sink stopper wouldn't release (the mechanism disengaged), so the sink just filled with increasingly dirty water.

Ah well, at least my room was quiet, being at the end of the top floor hall, on the side away from the road (even numbers). My original room assignment had been on the 2nd floor, despite the profile and comments preference for top floor.

And the older man-and-woman front desk team in the morning was conscientious and friendly. I've gotten used to the scaled-down HP complimentary breakfast, but they need real yogurt (not "lite," which has gross artificial sweeteners) and they need to add little packets of jam and marmalade. Butter alone won't do.

HP Rancho Cordova breakfast

Stayed here twice on a recent MR -- staff was always friendly and did a great job with breakfast. And there is jam -- good jam -- in a cylindrical container near the coffee pots. (I know, why not near the toaster?) Anyway, we really liked the HP format and staff. Looking forward to trying the Roseville property next year en route to Tahoe.

I'm back here tonight before heading up to Reno in the morning. The Ohio State women's rowing team is on my floor. They competed at NCAA championships in Sacramento this weekend.

No recognition of Diamond status on check-in and my profile for a high floor only got me a second floor room. I'll sleep well just the same. I still find it's hit or miss on getting rooms with HP that match my profile. I do have an end unit.

There is a new Chipotle on Zinfandel just across U.S. 50 where I ended up for something to eat. There is also a new casino/restaurant a block behind the hotel (Cordova's--doesn't come up on my GPS which I updated this week).

Great Stay

This was my second stay at a Hyatt Place and I love these properties; especially since I booked through Hotwire for a fantastically low rate. The lobby is airy and nicely decorated and all the staff are friendly and efficient. The room was well decorated in brown and beige tones and was very spacious. It boasts a small kitchenette (fridge, but no microwave) a work desk, a sitting area with a large, comfy sofa, a large flat-screen TV atop a mantle, a sink and vanity (outside the toilet/shower room) and a bedroom, with a very comfortable bed. It also comes with free Wifi. The complimentary breakfast offers delicious poached egg-on-biscuit sandwiches, hot and cold cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries and great coffee. I highly recommend this property should you need accommodation in the Rancho Cordova area.

Something nice happened to me at this hotel, which has never happened at the ~100 other Hyatt properties at which I've stayed. The front desk took the time to read the guest "notes" prior to arrival. When we got to the room, a small envelope bearing my name was on the desk. I opened the envelope and it said simply "Welcome to Rancho Cordova. We hope you have a nice stay. Go Cowboys!" and was signed by one of the managers.

I asked her, "where did you get the idea that I was a Cowboys fan"? She showed me the "Notes" section of my profile where it mentions that fact. Based on content of that section, I determined that every last note was entered into my profile by the Andaz Liverpool Street staff during a stay in January 2014.

So, in answer to the question, "what kind of a hotel would actually read the notes section of a guest profile?", one correct answer is: Hyatt Place Rancho Cordova.

We do look forward to our next vist.
