At ORD now, on the mobile flyertalk, couldn't figure out search and didn't recall seeing this....
but... 1Ps boarded on red carpet with the normal group. happened 2 flights today. Gate agent specifically called 1Ps out, and stumbled on the usual blah blah speech about boarding areas...
Is this a new perk?

They can see how many of each are on the flight, and if the numbers are permissible, they will allow 1P's as well. Has only happened to me a few times in SFO and ORD.

I've been 1P for a long while, and it has happened to me 2 or 3 times (and maybe not any times after they introduced the red carpet). Maybe you are right...I hope you are

Only happened to me once last year. After the normal GS/1st class/1K red carpet boarding process (less than 10 people went through), they started to board area 1 in the non-red carpet area and the line was long (as usual). Then they announced Premier Executives may also board through the Red Carpet line. Only about 5 "1P" members (myself included) switched to the red carpet line. Overall it didn't make much difference, but probably saved me a few minutes standing in line.

I look forward to the possibility of this benefit, but I have never heard a GA do it in my prior flights.

I'm 1K but on BOS-SFO last Saturday they announced "First Class, GS, 1K, and Premier Executive" to Red Carpet. I thought it was strange but put it out of my mind until I saw this thread..

Hmm, maybe there was a memo sent out to the UA GA's.
But this really wouldn't matter to me at all because out of the 75 segments I do per year, 68ish of them are on Skywest's Embraer Brasilias.

I too heard this just yesterday at IAD. Never did like the large boarding group 1 lumping in 2 & 3P's. In some airports, it seems this boarding group accounts for just about everyone.

And despite having the red carpet lanes, Skywest UX agents usually don't open the lanes, and bounce any 1K/GS who try to use the red carpet lane back into the long line (with all the non-elites in the long line glaring at you for having tried to "cut"). What a pain. Seriously, UA should either tell UX to use the red carpet lane, or just remove the red carpet lane from UX gates to avoid confusion.

I've had it happen often enough, but never noticed huge benefits unless Group 1 is heavy.
