EgyptAir to join Star Alliance

http://www.boarding.no/art.asp?id=28645

At a joint ceremony held in Cairo today, the Chief Executive Board of Star Alliance has voted to accept EgyptAir as a future member,

Egypt is one of the most important aviation markets in Africa, with a large potential for both business and leisure travel. We are proud that EgyptAir, a world class airline, has chosen to join Star Alliance, thereby recognizing the importance of alliances in aviation today, commented Jaan Albrecht, CEO Star Alliance.

The airline I was really waiting for

They bring a total of 9 (!) new destinations to Star Alliance and are really filling a big hole within the *A network.

No. Still, I guess most people prefer first-hand sources.

Which creates more ways to travel between North America and Middle East, between Europe and Africa, intra-Africa.

I don't see why it is bad.

sorry to burst your bubble but MS 'suspended' their SYD service quite some time ago ( unless they have brought it back and I missed the announcement)

I can't believe that they claim that they have no "high quality" partners they can take aboard to resume operations to and within South America ... and then they absorb AI and EG and MS .

I mean any carrier in South America - including AV - would have been vastly superior to these two .

Yikes.... After their voluntary plunge from the sky in a 767 bound from New York to Cairo possibly a rehearsal or planning part of the 9/11 attacks , I do not see this as an enrichment of the Alliance...

Are you suggesting that one scratches after flying those airlines ?... That's VERY politically incorrect
