Fourth Annual PBI-FLL Meet: Oct 26-28, 2007

Nota bene: This is a very long thread. Much of it contains posts which you do not really need to read in order to have all the required information. I do, however, strongly suggest that you read Posts # 1, 2, and 3 in the thread as well as the links provided in those posts. (No, you do not have to read through the very first link -- if you do, you will not finish in time for the Meet.)

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Any FlyerTalk Meet is a great one but there aren't enough superlative adjectives in the dictionary to describe this one!

For a start, one year after BEYFlyer and I spent the summer exchanging posts while missiles and bombs were being dropped on us across our mutual border, we are finally going to meet in person in Boca Raton.

And what better place for an Israeli Jew and a Lebanese Arab to break bread together than a Florida restaurant which specializes in pork chops and ribs?

(Of course, as we are both from the Middle East, some irreconciable differences remain between us. He flies Lufthansa -- I go on Delta. Moreover, he will be staying at the Holiday Inn while I will be at the Embassy Suites.)

All FlyerTalkers are very cordially invited to join us and there will be quite a variety, not only from the Middle East but also from Europe and the States. We will have moderators, TalkBoard members, former TalkBoard members, airline and hotel executives, veteran members and newbies.

FlyerTalker In Charge Randy Petersen announced he will be joining us at the Meet and the International Hot Sauce King, our very own Cholula, will be there and passing out some tasty corporate goodies.

Moreover, aucarol and abelscc will both be celebrating their 21st birthdays (although rumor has it that this will not be the first time for either).

They won't be the only ones walking away with gifts. Everybody who attends the Saturday night dinner will get (and bring) a doorprize. For details of how that will work, please be certain to read Post # 145 of this thread as well as Post # 360.

Socrates has arranged a group rate for us for the Embassy Suites in Boca Raton and that will serve as our central hotel/boozing area. (You are, of course, free to make your own hotel arrangements elsewhere.) Please take a look Post # 8 for details.

(Depending on what nights they will be there, some people have found it less expensive to book at the Embassy Suites without using the group rate. Those who do use it should follow the instructions in Post # 20.)

The first step, as always, will be to get a list of possible and definite attendees, so if you think you might be coming, please let me know.

Also, make certain you are subscribed to this thread to keep up on any changes (and read the first three posts for the latest details).

Schedule:

Friday night, Oct 26:

See Post # 379 for details of where we will be gathering for drinks. There will be an unofficial get together at 5:30 pm and the official one will start at 9 pm. If you are willing to serve as a designated driver for the 1.3 mile trip from the hotel to the bar (and back) please see Post # 555.

7 pm: We will meet at the Embassy Suites pool for a short ceremony and the giving of the Dovster Awards. Please see Post # 701 of this thread. (Note: this was orginally scheduled for 4:45 pm, but has been moved back to 7 pm. It will either be in the ES bar or, if that is too crowded, at the pool.
Saturday night, Oct 27

7 pm -- The Big Dinner: tkey75 has reserved the patio of Lucille's Bad to the Bone BBQ, 710 Linton Ave. Delray Beach.

We will not be getting a set menu -- each person is free to order whatever he wants (and, of course, pay for it himself). The menu is available on the website and is very reasonable -- and the food very good.

Sunday: Possible shopping trip to one of several malls in the area (including the giant Sawgrass Mills Mall).

You are free, of course, to attend only one event, some events, or all of them. If you will be skipping either the Friday night drinks or the Saturday night dinner, however, please make that clear in advance.

In addition, you are welcome to schedule other events but if you do make certain to read Post # 355 first.

MikeMpls & WifeMpls definitely will be attending this event, along with one of my French cousins.

Arrive FLL on NW 1030 @ 2:53 p.m. on Friday 10/26
Depart FLL on NW 961 @ 4:32 p.m. on Monday 10/29

Staying at Embassy Suites, Boca Raton, Fri-Sun.

Staying at Heron House Court, Key West Sunday. There will be room in the back of the car for a couple more people* if anyone else is interested.

I knew there was a reason why NW replied today to my request to exchange two KLM coupons. (got two $100 ECV's -- no phone booking charges -- to replace two 50 Euro certs!!!)

*Women are advised to speak up in pairs lest they find themselves in the back seat with Dovster for 3-4 hours each way. I do not stop for routine molestation problems.

I would be happier to put you down as a heavy definite, but will settle for what I can get.

I guess if I'm to plan a dinner for this, it's prudent that I also attend.

Put me on the list!

So, what do we think abou that - something more casual like last year? Heck, they were so good to us at BTTB that I'd consider returning there. It couldn't have been a better locaton, too.

BTTB was fine last year and I imagine that in October the weather outside will be even better than it was in December.

I am putting you on the list right now. Are you coming alone, with a wife, or with a concubine?
