Flight Check - J Class HKG-SYD

Slightly delayed report but here you are:

Photos Link: (warning - over 90+ photos!)

http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=...v&x=0&y=9q9af8

CHECKIN
only 1 person in front of me and the agent was a CX agent wearing QF uniform. I aksed her about my upgrade (which I already knew it was declined) she checked my booking and unfortunately no Z Class booking made (so apparently they will still make a Z Class HK1 booking once they decided to offer you an upgrade)

She apologised apologetically and we talked about how in CX they will defintiely release the Z Class upgrade for me. Anyway Cest La Vie.

I then asked her about Row 16 and she called control and released for me. So the Expertflyer seat map is not that accurate (it was showing occupied - but NOT BLOCKED) But it was actually not occupied.

Also no F Class luggage tags as well for emeralds. I really think CX should stop doing this to Oneworld Emeralds as no other Oneworld partners are willing to do this and it actually stuffs up the F Class efficiencies!

I carried an extra piece of hand luggage and she arranged a colleague to escort me through immigration/security check (because QF does not supply the special tags like CX)

After the e-channel and security I made an immediate right to the BA/QF Hong Kong Lounge.

LOUNGE:
A seperate F Class section and the lounge receptionist (BA) escorted me there. There was onyl a cleaning lady in there at there time. a general spread of hot and cold food and some champange (forgot the brand) and an ice cream fridge. Generally I find the food offerings to be the best out of any QF lounges world wide (see pictures to see more)

I then went to the Wing which of course is 10 times better and I took many photos so refer to the link or more info.

Boarding:
seperate J and F Class channel as in normal HKG style
General greeting made as you approach the plane
Upper Deck Crew offering preflight champange, Room service SUPPER (something new ??) and breakfast cards and amenity kits

Catering:

Not as ellaborate as CX - No appetizers at all, (Depise I was stuffed at the wing (as evident from the pcitures) I asked the crew for some soup and the Main course and they happily obiliged. Quality not bad, but nothign to write home. However presentation is better than CX (plating in the galley)
Main course I had was some beef brisket thingy with thin noodles and soup was some pumpkin soup and a small side salad and the Neil Perry Birch and White Dressing.

Dessert

Pinapple Ginger Upside down cake - No ice Cream! Damn it as the cake was so nice and the ice cream will complement it so well

Again cheese and crakers and fruit are an "or" option and not "and"

Breakfast -

I had the Chinese option whcih consist of some dim sum, chinese bun, fish congee -which is not bad, vegemite toast (which was like rubber!) and some green tea

I had an ibanking friend told me he ticked everything and got both the chinese and english option before? does it work?? ahhahaha

Seat comfort.
Great as a seat, but average for sleeping. Row 16 helps, but it is NOT a flat bed! anyway, I manage to accessorise the seat with 3 blankets to use as a matress pad and 5 pillows to make the surrounding more luxurious and created my own turn down service (see pcitures) It makes a difference so I recommend it if there are enoguh pillows/bankets for you to do this

I also had Row 16 all to myself

IFE:

SHI$E.

See picture for the error messages.

We had to restart the system 3 times and it is slow and not stable (restart automatically) and choice is average. the worst thign is it affects the normal loop cycle as well so we had no IFE for like 2 hours! this is pretty bad for an 8 hour flight! Anyway.... hope QF will change the rockwell collins system asap

Crew:

Generally they are good, but of course different style to CX, but I find them to be good. However the csm did not come and greet me - ME = Oneworld Emerald! ahahahahha

Amenity Kit - Locitanne -with the usual stuff

Just to clarify the seat map issue. The airlines and the GDS are responsible for properly coding a seat as: occupied (and unassignable), blocked (for various reasons), blocked for premium pax assignment only, open.

However, many airlines will code their seats as just either open or occupied. Sometimes it is the GDS that does not fully translate all the possible seat status possibilities from the airlines when they release the data to us. There is suppossed to be a standard coding format between the airlines and the GDSs but not all airlines have fully implemented it or done the coding conversion at all. Some airlines will only do it for ceratin flights and not for others.

Thank you,
EFV

With the E/F issue, Qantas "tell" E/F that exit row and bassinet positions are occupied so that's what you see; even if they are not. Qantas seatmaps via E/F do show unoccupied premium seating as darker 'empty' seat icons.

I am flying with mrs serfty on QF128 in April and the Exit row seats we have allocated showed as occuped before we requested them. They still show as occupied but I know it's us. (I can see 'our' seats as orange when using Check my Trip.)

NICE photos - oh the memories of my last visit to the Wing - marvelous!!! A friend in London thinks QF J class is better in comfort than BA's J class as far as cushion.

I find the QF cushioning to be the weakest link out of all the flatseats especially in the flat bed mode ( I can feel the metal bars around thelower back/hip area) However if you accesorise it liek what I did then u will be fine!

Thanks for taking the time to upload the photos, as they give me something to look forward to (and a reminder not to snack before arrival). I'll be checking out the HKG Cathay lounge for the first time on an upcoming HKG-MEL in March, on the way to World Swimming Championships in Melbourne.

Sigh, I have not been flown out of HKIA for almost 6 months...
I'm going to cry soon after seeing the CX F lounge.
