5th Annual London Presidents (USA) Weekend Do: Feb 16-18/07
Feb '03 was the first-ever FT event I attended. I was going to London for my Annual Birthday/Presidents Weekend get-away, and noticed that there was a London Do that weekend organized by wingnut. Having really only discovered/started reading threads the month before, I was quite excited about meeting some other people who travelled.
I remember arriving at Wagamama's a bit nervous about meeting other FTers, and the hostess saying - 'oh you're with the group that doesn't know each other'. LOL... Not quite so nervous after that.
I had the pleasure that night of meeting wingnut, sweetwillie & mrssweetwillie (aka judi), letiole, techgirl, lala, amongst others, and a tradition was born.
It's also a nice weekend to start racking up the miles for re-qualification of status on airlines & take advantage of winter airfares.
Date: Feb 16-19, 2007
Location: London England
Happenings:
FRIDAY, FEB 16th
Day free for shopping, museums, sleeping, etc
For those in town that day, meet at AllBarOne on Dean Street in Soho, as that's the place the London FTers normally choose, 5-8:00ish pm.
I normally head out to dinner w/ local UK friends around 8:00pm, and FTers go to dinner on their own, and then I try to meet up if possible post dinner w/ FTers again (presuming we're still awake)
FTers are thinking of doing dinner Fri eve at Chez Lazeez on Dean St.
SATURDAY, FEB 17th
Day open to sleep in, go to museums, shopping, restaurants, matinee theatre
If someone wants to organize something prior to 4:00pm, go for it.
4:00-6:00pmish Meet at Ye Grapes in Shepards Market or White Horse Tavern in Soho
6:30ish Dinner in Soho: Luigi's (Italian) or Wagamama's (Japanese); TBD as date gets closer
After dinner - pubs, clubs, casinos, or back to hotels to drink and/or sleep
SUNDAY, FEB 18th (My Birthday! )
Day open to sleep in, go to museums, shopping, restaurants, matinee theatre if any are open. Usually someone organizes a get-together for lunch or walking tour or museum or dinner, etc.

BAFTA Awards are on the Feb 11th in '07, so miss those by a week. But yes it is my birthday weekend, hence flowers, booze & SWUs/CR1s can be delivered to my hotel room .
Cheers.

Since it's the only Do I ever do and now I've done two, I'll keep it on the radar screen for a decent fare and hope to do this Do too.

confirmed!
Just booked my ticket into Gatwick, and home from Zurich, Switzerland, for $342 plus tax (total $438). I'll buy a ticket on BA for $52 to connect between the two, and a Swiss Rail pass for 8 days. I've been wanting to get back to Switzerland for a while in the winter, so it tags onto the London Do just perfectly (and I won't do any better on fares coming home from there--they just never get this low).
Hoping AA will have their new business class seats on my transAtlantic 767's by then.

If I make it, it would be the same as last year - just Friday, then a Saturday morning flight onward. But I doubt I'm going to find a mistake $780 B fare like somebody (I think it might have been izzik) found for me last year...
