AA 777 Service LAX - MIA & Returns Sep 6 2006
I have an upcoming Los Angeles - Montevideo itinerary booked, with the connect in Miami. I was checking my upcoming itineraries on the AA web site and saw that the LAX - MIA segment on the outbound and the MIA - LAX segment on the return have been changed from 763 and 757 service to 777's. Looking at the AA schedule, it appears that AA has added a midday 777 from LAX - MIA starting on September 6 and also, the first flight of the day MIA - LAX beginning on that date will be 777's. Certainly a better ride than via the present 738, 757, and 763's on the route!

Yes, it is old news but I don't think anybody has solved the 2 or 3 class question and whether elites can reserve J seats for economy fares.

If they really thought there was that kind of demand, they'd have brought in more flights than just this one, I have a feeling it has to do with cycling 777s through the system so they have the most flying time and least idle time.

Recently, AA doesn't seem to like combining routes as two and three class routes, with only two currently in the system. Maybe they figure that in the case of irregular opps or something it will be a PITA to tell F pax that they are now going to be flying on a 757 instead of their original 777, because I'm guessing there are a lot more people out there willing to pay $4k for the latter, but fewer for the former.
What I do think is foolish on all these routes using a 762 or 777 as a 2-class plane is not making the J section F (as it is still better than any other domestic F besides the 763), with the true F seats only available to full-fares and PLT/EXP, or something like that, the way US does with their int'l A330s.

And tell me what US is doing. They don't have any three class planes, do they?

LAX-MIA & v.v. widebody schedule eff 6SEP06:
Flights to avoid in first (at all cost, IMHO), i.e. on 757:
Other flight
The 777 is sold as only two class, but they attached the wrong seat map to these flights (as it often happens). Expect to see them being updated whenever they catch up to their mistake to reflect rows 9-13 in the economy-fare cabin (usually blocked as premium seats avaialable for pre-assignment only to elites and full-fare passengers).

This is also no different than CX using a 747 on a 2-class route and either 1) closing off the F cabin entirely, or 2) reserving it for Diamonds only.
