nice story but I sure wish more people would adopt a pet from a rescue/shelter vs buying one from a breeder/store

Agree completely. While it's certainly a good effort by WN, this isn't a feel-good story, IMO. Just take a walk through any shelter.

We tried for 3 months to get a dog from a shelter. Seems there are many more people looking for dogs than dogs in the shelter. Gave up and will try in the spring.

It depends on the part of the country in which you live. Some areas routinely ship animals to more distant rescue organizations because they are overrun with dogs (or cats) that are all potentially good pets. Good for SWA assisting in this case, but the point of looking first at your local shelters and animal rescue groups is excellent advice.
