Barclays Premier Avios Rewards / Upgrade Voucher

Back in February there were many sites running articles that Barclays Premier current account holders would be able to earn Avios such as these

https://www.headforpoints.com/2020/0...n-partnership/

https://www.godsavethepoints.com/bar...vios-accounts/

anybody know if this is still being planned and if so any details on how you will even earn Avios? is it X amount of Avios per direct debit? so many points per £1 spent? a flat rate per month you hold a premier account? I upgraded to Premier in March ready for this but its all been silent and starting to get itchy now for details.

From chats with Avios, I understand that it has been delayed because Barclays doesn't feel that the timing is right because no-one is flying. 2021 seems likely.

I would argue that this is the wrong approach - people want to pick up Avios well in advance of trips that they want to book well in advance!.

I agree it is the wrong approach, people are still banking and collecting Avios via other routes so i think Barclays are wrong to delay its launch to 2021, annoying knowing i could potentially be earning Avios right now from my bank account for future flights.

Didn't AMEX tie up another 7 years with BA, maybe they pushed Barclays off the table with a big deal?

Amex has credit card exclusivity, yes.

However, as per Tesco, HSBC, NW, RBS, Capital on Tap, IHG, Marriott etc, anyone can run a card offering their own points which convert to Avios.

Absolutely, in the absence of actual flying, I'm looking for every available way to boost my Avios balance for when it is needed again. Clubcard, TCB and Natwest rewards should get me a decent sum between them this year.

Update

Not sure if anyone else will find this useful...I caught up with my Premier Banking Relationship Manager earlier this week and I asked him for an update on Avios. He said that all eligible Premier Banking customers will receive communications from end February through mid-March on what the programme will look like but customers will need to choose between Blue Rewards or Avios. When he said that, my initial thoughts were around how many Avios will you earn if Blue Rewards is the trade off!

Does anyone know if this will be replacing HSBC Premier and the ability to convert their reward points to Avios?

I’m surprised a major bank hasn’t jumped at this before now, I for one am partial to a switch and would jump at the ability to earn even a fairly modest number of Avios in return for my day to day banking.

Well, possibly not an apples:apples comparison, but a Natwest's premier offering is a good Avios source. Their Premier Reward account will net you £8/month after fees. In gross terms I'm getting £20/ month in rewards (1 joint/1 sole account) for £4 fees. £20 rewards converts to 2350 Avios.

So annually I can get 28,200 Avios for £48 - very happy with that.

Don't Lloyds still offer an Avios Mastercard?

This page is now available on the Barclays website. Looks like it might be interesting, depending on the terms of the upgrade voucher:

The T&C seem to be there already. From the Barclays and BA sites respectively:
You can find out more information about the cabin upgrade voucher in the Barclays app. Cabin upgrade vouchers must be used on Avios reward flight bookings. Reward flights and cabin upgrades are subject to availability. Taxes, fees and carrier charges per person apply. Additional terms and conditions apply to the use of the cabin upgrade voucher, please go to ba.com/barclays-avios-rewards for more information.

Thanks, yes I found that after my post above. Its basically the old Lloyds voucher reborn, even down to not being valid on CWLCY. Only improvement on that is that you get the voucher back if you cancel the booking.
