DOT ruling and canceled flight compensation

Last week, we had four flights canceled (one would be canceled, we would rebook for the next day, then they would cancel that one, etc.) and returned home 2 days later than originally scheduled from Mexico. Does the DOT ruling about compensation for canceled or significantly delayed flights apply to our situation? Initial contact with American says they will or offer anything for our troubles. Thoughts?

No, by taking the later flights you agreed to accept their rebooking (as opposed to not taking the flight and requesting a refund). The DOT letter applies to passengers who are rebooked or rescheduled and decline to accept the new itinerary.

There is no ruling about compensation. It is best to simply read the Warning Letter issued by DOT:

https://www.transportation.gov/sites...3%202020_0.pdf

As you can see, it simply requires that if the carrier cancels your flight, you may have a refund. If you choose to accept a rebooking, a voucher, or anything else, that is your sole option.

US law does not provide for compensation in the case of delays & cancellations.

Generally, AA will refund your ticket if you have a delay of two hours or more with no problem — but if you voluntarily accept reaccommodation, you may be stuck. Unless your new flights go screwy as well, but you may be offered a voucher.

Isn’t refund still available for 60 minute change?
