UA/LH in negotiations to buy Neeleman's stake in TP

https://www.jornaldenegocios.pt/empr...snot%C3%ADcias use google translate, but in a nutshell sounds like negotiations are pretty far ahead which would see UA and LH together buying TP. Guessing TP's TATL economy and biz fares were giving them heartburn...

The adding of another "national" carrier to LH Group is not a surprising idea but curious about what the role of UA would be.

What will antitrust agencies think of that?

UA are already offering cut price TATL biz fares routing via TAP. If they buy TP, they cut out the middleman. And they can up the fares. Seems obvious.

Nothing. It would be a 49% stake of a separately-run airline. TP is not part of the TATL cartel. LH and UA own minor stakes in other airlines already.

If the antitrust authorities think anything, they would stop the TATL cartel and not bother about LH buying a stake in a fairly insignificant airline.
