Is Alaska taking a pass on the Super Bowl market from the Bay Area?

Within minutes of the San Francisco 49ers' win over Green Bay on Sunday, leading the way to a Super Bowl matchup with Kansas City, American Airlines announced it added five extra nonstops between the Bay Area and Miami International Airport. It added two San Jose-Miami nonstops, and three from San Francisco International.

So far, Alaska Airlines appears to be the only big Bay Area carrier that has not added extra flights.

Delta (added a single SFO-MIA), Jet Blue (added two SFO-FLL), Southwest (added a single SJC-FLL) and United (two additional SFO-MIA) have all added flights from the Bay Area. How about you, Alaska?

In all not quite seriousness, had AS been serving SFO/MIA, it would have canceled its service in honor of the Super Bowl.

I don’t think they have the fleet slack to do it at the moment, unless you want to fly a mothballed Q400 across the continent.

No, no, it just would have diverted to OAK.

Yeah, they seem to have no fleet slack at the moment, unless they were to temporarily suspend Airbus mods, in which case you could fly cross country in a 55” pitch non-reclining seat.

We can't even keep the regular FLL flights running.
