BA216 (IAD-LHR) delay - 16/11

Can anyone look up the reason for today’s delay on BA217 and subsequent knock on to BA216 please?

ZO - so that is Operational, which can mean all sorts of things.

It left T5 gate C64 at 17:04, against a scheduled time of 11:50 hrs. This is an A380 so my guess is that is some sort of knock on from the lightning strike before the HKG sectors, see other thread, I suspect they are short on capacity here.

Hi,

You may get an email, text or sms message from BA saying that check in will be open later ( but unless you get one of those you will need to have checked in/bagged dropped by the original check in deadlines)

Regards

Hi,

If check in opens at three with extra time you could go to the Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy museum ( lots of aircraft displays including a Air France concorde) ( open till 530pm) if you have not been before

Checkin at 3pm is only 30 mins later than usual, so should be no major grief.

Udvar Hazey is indeed amazing, but deserves at least 2 hours on-site.

From looking at FR24, G-XLEE arrived from Washington at 06:25 yesterday morning before turning around and heading back again.

By pure chance, after noticing the flight from AUH arriving very late, I started looking at other BA delays (bored in the airport!) and saw that the 216 was a creeping delay. First due to go at 12:50, then 13:30.... and onwards.

Upon departure, I spotted at least a couple of A380’s parked in the maintenance area.

there are always at least a couple parked there during the day. Most arrive first thing and don’t redepart again until late afternoon/evening.

Just a quick update. We landed just over 4 hours late into LHR. Captain stated that the flight had almost been cancelled due to the technical issue on BA217 before it left for IAD. That needed to be repaired and took longer than expected. No detail on what the issue was though.

I was on the ba217 on Saturday. They had a fault on an engine.
initially looked like they didn’t have a spare part but then found one in a hanger. Turned out this was the wrong part. Crew went out of hours but they got permission to extended. They then found another part and this was correct. We were on board for 5hrs before we left LHR 10mins before the 5pm iad flight. We were lucky to fly as it looked likely it was going to get canned. It was indeed a creeping delay, always ‘we will know more in 20mins’. They also re-catered the plane part way thru

The later flight arrived 20mins after us and found a full A380 worth of passengers at immigration (I had some colleagues on it and it took them 2hrs to clear, I was thru the airport in 20min inc hold luggage)
