Is it grounds for divorce? [Not Serious]

Just a light hearted discussion with my now wife prompted me to post on here.

We’re both young - but travel a lot for work. Whilst we were dating I was always extremely jealous of my girlfriends BA status - although it made travelling with her a pleasure it was always her status that provided the luxuries.

Thanks to the help on here during our first years together I shot up the tiers and obtained my own status enjoying the lounges and fast track on my own merit.

We got married earlier this year and this morning she’s just announced that she’s falling to BLUE at the end of the month!!! So FlyerTalk. Is this grounds for divorce? Surely there’s a material change to our relationship now!

Write up the divorce papers now and give it to her .... BUT don’t sign the document. Then send her a separate signed document stating ignore previous one.

I think you will have to take the time-honoured husband route of buying your way out of trouble:
  1. Earn GGL
  2. Gift her a Gold card (or Silver if you're of the "treat'em mean" school...)

Of course, in achieving (1) you may well be away so much that she divorces you but, hey, no plan is perfect 😎

And then apply for the 2 week extension. It's almost always available.

Would be if you didn't have your own status now.

Unfortunately I’m dropping next summer. Work is getting tighter with travelling in club. 8 hours plus now which most of my travel falls under at least there’s a soft landing!

You can always pay for your own travel. Just a thought!

That’s the plan for next year but between us we have loads of Avios and get two companion vouchers a year. So end up on redemption flights more often than not. Need to sort the status out before kids start arriving.

you will be fine.. just travel like my wife does with me a quite a few times a year.
Me. OWE would always guest her in LHR into BA First lounge and other First loungers around the world, however now she is also OWE, she has a kick out of guesting me .

Enjoy travel while your still young.. no point in waiting until you get older, by then your mind will want to go but your body wont let you.

PS. no need to have any papers ready, , enjoy your married life together.

If she is doing less travel for work and you can have more time together, that’s a win.

Plan the arrival of any children and a few TP runs at the correct points of your membership year then use the parental extension of your BAEC status to give yourself a whole three years of gold.

Maybe divorce work instead of the wife?
